    Romans 8

3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Do you now claim more than that you 'keep' the Law, and that you even "fulfill the RIGHTEOUSNESS of the Law"?

    Do you?!

    No, Sir!

I have the faith that the HS will satisfy the requirements by the Law, Sir.

I think John Wesley has done the greater works for the Lord than you have done.

You'd better wash your mouth then.

in Romans 6 Paul has already made it plain "shall we sin because we are not under the Law but under grace? God forbid".

And in Romans 3:31 "do we then make void the Law of God by our faith? God forbid! In fact we establish the Law".

So then in Romans 8 "if by Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the flesh THEN are you the children of God".

The good tree of Matt 7 - showing good fruit.

... in you? ... usually it is.

[..surely you meant to write 'of the Law'; not "by the Law".]

The Holy Spirit is not the Person of the Godhead the satisfaction of the requirements of the Law is attributed to. Jesus Christ is that Person. If you had faith that Jesus Christ satisfies the requirements of the Law IN YOUR PLACE, you had reason to have faith IN HIM; not in the Holy Spirit FOR THAT REASON--BUT BY the Holy Spirit for that reason, CHRIST being the ALL in all fulfilling FULLNESS of God the ONLY Satisfier and Satisfaction of the Law or its requirements.

The good tree ... well argued, but spoiled fruit. Obvious kindred soul of John Wesley.

You are trying to destroy the teachings of the Lord Jesus by your own theology.

Jesus clearly mentioned the Law will not pass away without being accomplished. The Sacrificial Law was accomplished at the Cross.

But the Moral Law like no murder, no adultery is still effective and is to be abided by.

Many misunderstand Pharisees and Scribes kept the law, but Jesus said this:

    John 7:19

Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

Apostle Paul didn't violate the Law.

    Acts 25 :8
While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all.

Do you think Jesus violated the Law? What about Paul and John?

Are the Messianic Jews of today cult, because they keep the Sabbath?

What I mean is that we must have to faith to see the Holy Spirit work to accomplish what the Law require us of ( Rom 8:3-4)

    Indeed - lots of options.

John was a Christian Jew - so maybe he was thinking of Sabbath.

He was seeing the future - so maybe he was saying "Some day in the future on the Great day of the Lord I will be in vision".

I guess we have to look at the details to figure out which it is.

    in Christ,

    All very good points.

As as for the 10 Commandments still applying to Christians today - even R.C Sproul, D.L. Moody, Andy Stanley, Charles Stanley and many others see that Bible point clearly.

We cannot simply toss them all under a bus.:type:

    19. The Law of God

    1. God gave to Adam a law of universal obedience which was written in his heart, and He gave him very specific instruction about not eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. By this Adam and all his descendants were bound to personal, total, exact, and perpetual obedience, being promised life upon the fulfilling of the law, and threatened with death upon the breach of it. At the same time Adam was endued with power and ability to keep it.

    2. The same law that was first written in the heart of man continued to be a perfect rule of righteousness after the Fall, and was delivered by God upon Mount Sinai in the ten commandments, and written in two tables, the first four containing our duty towards God, and the other six, our duty to man.

    3. Besides this law, commonly called the moral law, God was pleased do give the people of Israel ceremonial laws containing several typical ordinances. These ordinances were partly about their worship, and in them Christ was prefigured along with His attributes and qualities, His actions, His sufferings and His benefits. These ordinances also gave instructions about different moral duties. All of these ceremonial laws were appointed only until the time of reformation, when Jesus Christ the true Messiah and the only lawgiver, Who was furnished with power from the Father for this end, cancelled them and took them away.

    4. To the people of Israel He also gave sundry judicial laws which expired when they ceased to be a nation. These are not binding on anyone now by virtue of their being part of the laws of that nation, but their general equity continue to be applicable in modern times.

    5. The moral law ever binds to obedience everyone, justified people as well as others, and not only out of regard for the matter contained in it, but also out of respect for the authority of God the Creator, Who gave the law. Nor does Christ in the Gospel dissolve this law in any way, but He considerably strengthens our obligation to obey it.

    6. Although true believers are not under the law as a covenant of works, to be justified or condemned by it, yet it is of great use to them as well as to others, because as a rule of life it informs them of the will of God and their duty and directs and binds them to walk accordingly. It also reveals and exposes the sinful pollutions of their natures, hearts and lives, and using it for self-examination they may come to greater conviction of sin, greater humility and greater hatred of their sin. They will also gain a clearer sight of their need of Christ and the perfection of His own obedience. It is of further use to regenerate people to restrain their corruptions, because of the way in which it forbids sin. The threatenings of the law serve to show what their sins actually deserve, and what troubles may be expected in this life because of these sins even by regenerate people who are freed from the curse and undiminished rigours of the law. The promises connected with the law also show believers God's approval of obedience, and what blessings they may expect when the law is kept and obeyed, though blessing will not come to them because they have satisfied the law as a covenant of works. If a man does good and refrains from evil simply because the law encourages to the good and deters him from the evil, that is no evidence that he is under the law rather than under grace.

    7. The aforementioned uses of the law are not contrary to the grace of the Gospel, but they sweetly comply with it, as the Spirit of Christ subdues and enables the will of man to do freely and cheerfully those things which the will of God, which is revealed in the law, requires to be done.

    26. 4
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. In Him, by the appointment of the Father, is vested in a supreme and sovereign manner all power for the calling, institution, order, or government of the Church. The Pope of Rome cannot in any sense be head of the Church, but he is that antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition, who exalts himself in the church against Christ and all that is called God, who the Lord shall destroy with the brightness of His coming.

Chapter 19. Of the Law of God.

19.1. God gave to Adam a law, as a covenant of works, by which he bound him and all his posterity to personal, entire, exact, and perpetual obedience; promised life upon the fulfilling, and threatened death upon the breach of it; and endued him with power and ability to keep it.
19.2. This law, after his Fall, continued to be a perfect rule of righteousness; and, as such, was delivered by God upon Mount Sinai in ten commandments, and written in two tables; the first four commandments containing our duty toward God, and the other six our duty to man.
19.3. Besides this law, commonly called moral, God was pleased to give to the people of Israel, as a Church under age, ceremonial laws, containing several typical ordinances, partly of worship, prefiguring Christ, his graces, actions, sufferings, and benefits; and partly holding forth divers instructions of moral duties. All such ceremonial laws are now abrogated under the New Testament.
19.4. To them also, as a body politic, he gave various judicial laws, which expired together with the state of that people, not obliging any other, now, further than the general equity of it may require.
19.5. The moral law forever binds all, as well justified persons as others, to obedience to it; and that not only in regard of the matter contained in it, but also in respect of the authority of God the Creator who gave it. Neither does Christ in the gospel in any way dissolve, but much strengthen, this obligation.
19.6. Although true believers are not under the law as a covenant of works, to be justified or condemned by it; yet is it of great use to them, as well as to others; in that, as a rule of life, informing them of the will of God and their duty, it directs and binds them to walk accordingly; discovering also the sinful pollutions of their nature, hearts, and lives; so as, examining themselves by it, they may come to further conviction of, humiliation for, and hatred against sin; together with a clearer sight of the need they have of Christ, and the perfection of his obedience. It is likewise of use to the regenerate, to restrain their corruptions, in that it forbids sin, and the threatenings of it serve to show what even their sins deserve, and what afflictions in this life they may expect for them, although freed from the curse of it threatened in the law. The promises of it, in like manner, show them God's approbation of obedience, and what blessings they may expect upon the performance of it; although not as due to them by the law as a covenant of works: so as a man's doing good, and refraining from evil, because the law encourages to the one, and deterres from the other, is no evidence of his being under the law, and not under grace.
19.7. Neither are the aforementioned uses of the law contrary to the grace of the gospel, but do sweetly comply with it: the Spirit of Christ subduing and enabling the will of man to do that freely and cheerfully, which the will of God, revealed in the law, requires to be done.

Good references. Do those documents speak in detail about what "IS the Moral Law"?

There can be differences among the interpretations.

In the past I thought, among 10 commandments 9 belong to Moral and Sabbath belong to Ceremonial Law. But I notice most of the people who emphasize the importance of the Law classify all Decalogue as the Moral Law, because God rested on Sabbath even at the time of Eden, though it is mainly related to the Temple Services.

Tithe belongs to Temple Sacrifice Law, because it was paid to the Levites, Priests and all the Temple Sacrifice Law have been accomplished at the Cross and therefore no longer effective since the Cross, and all born-again believers are the priests ( 1 Pet 2:5-9, Rev 1:6, 5:10)

No sacrifice is needed as we read Heb 10:17-18 since the Sacrifice at the Cross accomplished the Redemption Once For All, which millions of animal sacrifice couldn't achieve.

However, even today, Roman Catholic Masses repeat the imitative sacrifice every week, lifting the cookies and chalice by claiming they are the Flesh and the Blood, asking their god to forgive their sins because they don't believe all the sins were already forgiven at the Cross.

Temple has changed from Tabernacle to Solomon Temple-Zerubbabel Temple-Body of Christ-Body of Believers. Therefore all the law related to the Temple Sacrifice have been abolished.

Nobody keep the commandments for the Burnt Offering or for the Trespass Offering by animal sacrifice today.

However, such Law as Thou shalt not murder, thou shalt not commit adultery are still effective.

This is what Wesley, Spurgeon, Baptist Confession, Moody, are talking about.

    Here is the important point.

If we try to keep the Law, we are to fail all the time.
When we think the Moral Law is still effective, we realize more clearly that we cannot obey God up to His standards, and therefore we give up our ways and our will, then more completely commit ourselves to the Holy Spirit.
So, we are not mindful to keep the Law one by one, but are more dedicated to the Holy Spirit and rely on Him more faithfully. Then Holy Spirit guides us.

Up to 10 years ago, I have been rejecting any idea that the Law is still valid, but since the fellowship with many Messianic Jews I have realized about their faith.

During the past 2000 years, billions of Gentile world have not produced some believers like Elijah, Isaiah, or Paul or John.
I don't think Paul ate Pork meat or ignored Sabbath (Acts 16:13).

Up to 4 century, Messianic Jews believe, most of the Christian worship service was done on the Saturday Sabbath, except in Rome and in Alexandria. Especially in Constantinople and in East region, Sabbath worship was dominating.

To me, every day of the week is the Sabbath throughout my life and I believe Romans 14:1-5 applies to this issue, but historicallyand biblically, I believe Sabbath Worship is more biblical since God never changed the Sabbath Commandment explicitly.

Isaiah 66:23, Micah 4:2 will be effective in the new Millennium.

Indeed. My point was to show that these documents do explicitly point to the Ten Commandments as the Moral law - and this is the very thing that is being objected to in a number of posts here.

Your point that it must include not only the Ten Commandments - but even more than the Ten Commandments - can easily be seen in Matt 22 where Christ quotes from Lev 19:18 and Deut 6:5 saying that on these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets (which would include the Ten Commandments.)

Just where to draw the line beyond that point requires more study - but my point was that at the level "of basics" those who oppose the Ten Commandments are opposing what those documents refer to as the Moral Law applicable to all saints - and even all the world.

    in Christ,

    Bob

Yes; and Abraham also TRANSGRESSED the Law even before the Law was given at Sinai OR EVEN TO HIM!

What God says here , He says in the sign of grace and RECKONED righteousness and faith and not on Abraham's immaculate obedience. What God says here is NO DIFFERENT than what Jesus told women and men in own person: "Your SINS, are FORGIVEN; Go SIN no more!"

Abraham and Noah and Enoch and Elijah, everyone of them, obtained mercy in no other way than the murderer on the cross right next Jesus Christ on the cross.

Therefore obedience to or transgression of the Law doesn't prove a thing!

What proves the Law was there before sin is DEATH that reigned from the first sinners and shall reign until the last saint. "THE STRENGTH OF SIN IS THE LAW!"

what applies to us saved by grace, and now under the new covenant, is that we walk in the Holy spirit, abding in chrsit, and that by keeping Him and his relationship fresh daily, that the HS Himself shall enable us top live as we should!

We obey God from love and thanksgiving, and we will obey him as much as we yield and submit to the HS control over our lives!

Are you unfer the burden of the Law and keeping it, or the grcae and freedom from Chrsit and in the holy spirit?
