    Not quite. Sorcery was idolatry; potions or drugs were used ("Pharmekia") to induce hallucinations, so users could worship the false gods or demons.

    I believe it is a shame to rehearse the sins in public that we committed while we were sinners. Eph 5:12. It seems on this thread that everyone is taking pride in the fact they took drugs. This is the reason I detest testimony services in church.

    There's no pride in it. I wasted time, and grew away from God, thinking I could replace him. There is no glory in that. I do understand your point, and agree with it, but that wasn't my intent.

    My intent was to deny ANY spiritual connection and drugs.

    :laugh: However, I noticed when I worked on an adolescent psychiatric ward,for many alcohol has been the doorway to harder drugs. Maybe you have a point here.....perhaps Mikes Hard Lemonade is the foyer to the spirit world (they call alcohol 'spirits' after all). :smilewinkgrin:

    That's sad to hear, salzer. Some people don't know how to give their testimony without making it sound as though they are glorifying their past sins. Some, though, speak of these past indiscretions to show the pits from which God lifted them. As Malachi wrote, those that feared God spake often about Him, and a book of remembrance was written before the Lord for those people. How do we speak of the Lord except by relating the great things He's done for us? Otherwise we're just parroting a bunch of platitudes and rote catechisms.

    The bible is quite clear on this one as it says "not given to too much wine" which indicated being. Drink is a sin but moderation is not.

    What about pot, in moderation and where it is legal of course?

    My comment was more about alcohol being an introduction to other drug use with adolescents. Not really that it was a sin (I do not necessarily believe it to be a sin).

    For those in the ministry, however, my views may be different. Ministers are to be "above reproach." There is an emphasis on how one is perceived, and I believe that this may include cultural influences. A minister cannot be taken seriously if he drinks but lives in a cultural environment where drinking is considered unbiblical (that minister is certainly more "me" centered than is appropriate). We are not forbidden to drink, but not all things are beneficial. We do not live for ourselves, our desires, or even our needs. We live for Christ, and it is the love of Christ that should shine through our lives...not our 'right' to engage in any type of behavior. So I do agree with you that Scripture does not forbid drinking, although I may disagree in that I believe many who invoke this principle do so unbiblically (in a self-centered mindset void of a true biblical worldview). Legalism is legalism. Just saying that you are entitled to do something is not less legalistic than saying others are forbidden to do something else.

    But again, my point was that drinking is, for many, an introduction to harder drugs.

    I'm still interested how to keep the demons away when using legal, prescribed drugs? If I am in the hospital for surgery and they give me Dilaudid (which people have been known to hallucinate on), am I now susceptible to demons? Will I end up in occult activities because my doctor gave me Dilaudid?

    No, you only end up in occult practices if you watch certain movies or play certain board games. :smilewinkgrin:

    If pain medicine is off limits then I'm in trouble too. My back is a wreck and I have to have something to lessen the pain, otherwise it's unbearable.
