That doesn't change anything. Let the U.N. fight this. We have enough problems. And I was under the impression that the world now loved us, due to the election of Obama, and we needn't worry about any threats.

The only country that can control the leaders in North Korea is China.

That is who we fought against for three years and ended up exactly where we started. China supplied the army, and China called the halt. As armies, we were left in the field up to three weeks before we knew the war was over.

The North Korean government is indeed dangerous. Their people are in abject poverty and virtually starving. The leaders don't care. Only China can step in and control them, in my opinion. It will be a poltical action and not military. We tried military and it virtually failed.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Let the Europeans and the mideast deal with them.

    --> They won't.

    Then they suffer, not us.

--> Not really when the peop[le in Hawaii and Alaska see the missiles start falling on them.
    ---------------------------------------------------------

    Quote:
They are the ones who need to worry.

--> Their missiles being soon capable of hitting Alaska and Hawaii and we shouldn't worry?

Sigh. I thought we may have learned from the Iraq fiasco. It appears we haven't.

--> What does that have to do with them sending missiles into Alaska and Hawaii? Sometimes it doesn't ake us doing anything and Kim Jong-il flys off the handle.
About Iraq it ought to have taught us to do what MacArthur insisted at the end of WW2. The Japanese emperor had to announce to the nation he was not a god (Shintoism). We ought to have done the same in Iraq. Your god of the Quran failed. But that would inflame them and they could get more violent? They are anyway. Kill the will to fight!
    --------------------------------------------------------
We simply cannot afford to do anything,

--> We can't afford not to do anything.

North Korea does not pose a threat to us. We don't have any money. We will need to draft our kids to fight.

--> They do not pose a threat to us? Last I checked Alaska and Hawaii belonged to the USA.
    -----------------------------------------------
as we have two wars now, and are preparing for three more. We have probably killed a million of them with our sanctions.

--> The blame lies with them.

    That doesn't change anything.

--> It changes everything when they are wrong and our lives depend on it.

Testing a nuclear device is not the same thing as militarizing one, although they may already have a few made into bombs. No one knows for sure...except for the North Korean leadership.

    Tricked?
When the missiles start coming down on Hawaii and/or Alaska it won't be a "trick". It will be real and horrifying.

The crazy thing is....even if they actually launched a nuclear strike on America, we probably wouldn't respond in kind due to concerns over provoking China. Conventionally, we could respond, but North Korea knows were are limited.

My feeling is Israel should turn to Jesus Christ, and not rely on the American taxpayer to keep them safe.

America had their hands full with North Korea during the 3 years I was there. What makes you think anything is different to-day?

I still say China is the answer and we better start talking with China soon. Only China can control North Korea. That is where all her aid comes from.

    Cheers,

    Jim

The US/UN should blew China to bits. MacArthur's hands were tied too much. China would attack and we couldn't go into China becaue they didn't technically declare war. They said the soldeirs were "volunteers". What a bunch of garbage.

China did attack. They sent over 300K troops. We couldn't go into China because they had too many soldiers. We could have dropped the bomb like McAurther wanted to do but then we'd have Russia and China to deal with.

We need the UN because we are stretched with our two current wars so I really hope Obama waits on the UN before he does anything. However, it appears we may be cranking up the draft if this keeps up.

--> We could have gone in to China despite their high number of soldiers. Our air power would have demolished them.

--> I hope not. It's difficult to get the UN to even pass a resolution condemning North Korea for violationg a previous resolution. What a waste. All this appeasement and look how the North is behaving. Slam em!

Actually, Russia was far ahead of us in jet technology. I don't know about air superiority over China.

I don't think we should go in without the UN. You see what happened in Iraq and now they are our problem while the other nations are pulling out. I can see us going alone of NK attacks the US or it's assets directly but I think we should wait on the UN if they attack SK or others in Europe.

--> In 1950 were were well ahead of the Soviets in nuclear capability.

I wouldn't wait to be attacked. In this day in age it's consequences would be terrifying and would lead to megadeath. In terms of Iraq I wrote earlier in this thread:

To me, this is the scariest part of the situation. As dirt-poor as NK is, and as devoid of any morals as their leaders are, they'd sell a nuke to Mahmoud Ahmedsuchanidiot in a New York minute.

I disagree. If they nuked us, I think China would sit back as we made that country uninhabitable for a millenium.

    Ditto.

I think all Obama will want to do is just open a dialogue with him (like he did with the Iranian dictator) or have the U.N. make useless sanctions against him. I hope for our sake that he'll not be afraid to speak up, speak out, & speak against this guy. Furthermore, I hope that he also prepared to back up what he has to say. Somehow, I don't think Obama can do that. I can just see him talking to Il & shaking his finger at him.

Man if only John Bolton or Michael Savage were president. I'd feel much better as an American and for the safety and integrity of our nation.
