The greatest Game 7 I ever saw was the 2003 ALCS.

The 2004 ALCS was a more competitive series, and my beloved Red Sox completely humiliated the Yankees, but Game 7 was kind of a bust.

The 1975 W.S. stands out as a very competitive series, with an awesome game 7, but I was only 14, and my memory of it is fuzzy.

    Anybody else ?

I was at Game 7 of the World Series in 1991. The Jack Morris complete game shutout 1-0 win. Seats were in center field, but I was there.

I don't think any game I ever see will ever top that one.

I do remember that one. Gladden scored in extra innings, and I think several games went extra innings. I was working nights in a Juvenile Detention center at the time, so I watched most of it.

    You were there ? Cool.

Yes, there were several extra innings game, several 1 run game. USA Today called it the best World Series in history, and it's hard to argue. The runner up was 1975.

Friend of mine bought the ticket strips in September (have to purchase all tickets at your stadium) and asked me which game I wanted to attend. "Game 7". I should dig out my ticket stub, but I'm afraid to find it because back then it was in vogue to print tickets on recyclable paper with "natural" ink, so I fear the printing might be faded.

Well, all of my Grateful Dead ticket stubs from that era are still visible. I've kept one from the Boston Garden clipped on my fridge for years.

In the 2003 ALCS, 3 games were decided by 1 run, the last game decided on the last hit, the Yankees came back from 3 runs down to tie it in the 8th, and given the rivalry between the teams, I gotta give it to that one.

But both of our games are on every "Greatest Games Ever" list you will find.

That was the Aaron Boone walk off HR. Yes, that was a great game. I remember watching that one. Isn't this the ALCS series where Pedro threw at the head of someone and Don Zimmer charged out of the dugout and went after Pedro?

    As they should be.

Found it, and it's still in pretty good shape.

Yup. That happened in game 3. It also set up the brawl on July 24th, the next year. Great game.

Who is the only pitcher to hit a game 7 W.S. home run ? (Not a walk-off)

I don't know this, but I can guess. It's got to be before the DH, so before 1973. It's probably a game where the pitcher's team won, and probably won by several runs. It's probably a pitcher that was a decent hitter.

Off the top of my head I can only remember Game 7's that happened in my lifetime (or thereabouts). That leaves me with:

1956 year of Don Larsen's perfect game, has potential. Jackie Robinson's last game. It was a blowout. Can't think of any other pitcher besides Whitey Ford and Don Larsen, and Larsen didn't pitch in Game 7.

1960 don't think a pitcher hit a HR, but it was a high scoring game, so maybe. Only pitcher I can think of is Whitey Ford.

1964 Hmmm...As pitchers go Bob Gibson was a good hitter. Has potential.

1965 Nope. That was Dodgers/Twins and Koufax won 2-0 on two days rest.

1967 Bob Gibson again. This was Yaz's triple crown year. Has potential.

1968 Tigers beat the Cards, can't remember the score though, probably low scoring. Lolich won the game. Must have been Bob Gibson again.

1972 A's vs. Reds. Have no idea.

My guess is a pitcher from the 1956 World Series game 7, possibly 1960, so I suppose Whitey Ford, or else Bob Gibson, since he was involved in several Game 7's and was a good hitting pitcher.

    Yes!! Just looked it up.

    Yikes, I forgot 1971, 1962, 1958, 1957. Didn't happen those years. 1962 was a 1-0 game.

Congrats to the SF Giants and their third World Series win in five years. Also KC Royals in their Cinderella story!
