    This whole thread is much ado about nothing. If you church doesn't do it great. If it does, it shouldn't be seen as a referendum on the state of kids these days. Children's church isn't some new concept so that whole premise already fails the logic test. Kids learning capacity differs from age to age. I don't think anyone argues that. Having a kid sit in church also shouldn't be seen as a referendum on discipline. The fact that we are even arguing about this is absurd. If a child comes to learn the Biblical truth through a caring children's church volunteer or by grasping the words of a pastor then it is a victory for Christ.

    People need to stop seeing every deviation from the way their church does it as some new battleground to share with other believers. We let the world continue to make headway against Christians as they trip over each other fighting inconsequential battles. It needs to stop.

    Anyways - with that thinking - than you are required to homeschool your children thur college.
    Maybe you drove you parent nuts with questions, but many do not - especially if they do not have Christian parents -or even "milk" Christian parent.

    Then feel free to sit in on children's church - If there is a concern - talk to the leadership of the church. Or better yet - be the leader of CC.

    A fad? I was assisting in Children's church some 50 years ago.

    At our church, CC was for those in K-3rd Grade. At 4th Grade they were expected to be in "Big Church"
    And yes, they did learn about the Lord - at a level they could understand.

    Yes, I agree that scripture teaches that parents should teach their children.
    But does Scripture prohibit a church from having Sunday School and or Children's Church?

    NOW TO ANSWER THE OP QUESTIONS.

    I prefer the offering to be held before the preaching. I see no problem in passing the plate. If someone makes sure that all can see the $100 bill they put in - well they have their reward.

    And I am not so inclined about automatic payment from my checking account.

    But anyways - I do not have the offering after the message - as that time is for the invitation - and our mind and spirit should be on our walk with the Lord.

    In our particular church, if a new person comes and the kids are dismissed for Sunday school and the kids come down with the other kids, they are taught just like the others, even though we haven't met the parents. However, we do try to check in with the parents to meet them and find out where they are at. In our situation, we don't get "dump and run" since the children are in church for the first 40 minutes or so. They need to stay at least through all of our singing/announcement/singing time before they can "run". :)

    I thought this thread was about best time "in service" to ask for money.

    We ask for money right after:

    We sing a fast song of "praise", then two slow songs of "worship"
    Then we thank God for all those who came to the temple...ehem..."Lord's House"
    Then we "welcome" God and ask Him to "come be here with us" and thank Him for His "presence"
    We have baskets placed upon altars for financial "sacrifice"
    There's some misquoting about bringing a tithe into the "storehouse"
    Then a song of "fellowship" as we bring our "first fruits"

    Yeah, ours is a throwback to the temple... the Law, tithes, altars, the thought that God dwells in a building made with hands, the notion that legalistic tithing will lead to financial blessing....yeah.


    Seems like nobody wants to be the widow with two mites.

    Hummm.....when I'm referring to "run" I'm speaking about the parents just dropping them off at the curb and taking off. You then become the babysitter. Wouldn't it be better to flatten the parents tires....yea that's a start:laugh:

    Hey, if the heathens want to drop off their kiddies with us, let them do so! We at least can preach the Gospel to the kids and just maybe, they can influence their parents! I've seen it happen!

    Worse than heathens...try bad parent's. And disrespectful to the church as well.....then they are heathens. I could go on but naaaaaa I wont waste my time.

    My own opinion. The best way is the collection box at the back of the Sancutuary with no set "offering time" during the service.

    Since the offering is a form of worship, why would you not include it in the worship service?
