Westboro is just another cult using the name of a legitimate denom. Their "christianity" is phony as a Chevy F-150. Their ACTIONS & RHETORIC gives them away.

The TRUE Christian warns homos that PRACTICING HOMOSEXUALITY IS A SIN, but not an UNFORGIVABLE sin. the homo who becomes a Christian may not change "orientation", but WILL keep it under control, same as we heteros are expected to do.

Sex is like money, a GIFT FROM GOD. Both are expected to be used RESPONSIBLY. Something that separates us from most animals is that we can have sex any time of year, and we can have it purely for pleasure. But the Scriptural guidelines are for it to be practiced by HUSBAND AND WIFE. All other sex outside of that between a married man-and-woman couple is fornication, a sin. And ALL homo sex is sin.

But again, fornication/homo acts are NOT unforgivable! part of our duty is to tell people what is sinful, and back up our speech with Scripture. And the Westboro expression of hate for homos won't lead one of them toward CHRIST. All it'll do is produce more hate. More than one "westie" has been attacked by homos or friends/family of someone whose funeral has been disrupted/dissed by Westies.

But back to the OP, I don't believe the Westies are Christians at all, as they do NOT follow JESUS in His dealings with sinners. They fit the prophecy "having a FORM of godliness, while denying the POWER of it."

We should PRAY for them, while shunning all their unchristian activities. But be prepared! Who knows when a Westie may come to YOU, wishing to really hear the GOSPEL OF JESUS?

Unfortunately WBC meets the historic requirements to be considered fundamental:

    1. The Trinity: God is one "What" and three "Whos" with each "Who" possessing all the attributes of Deity and personality.

    2. The Person of Jesus Christ: Jesus is 100% God and 100% man for all eternity.

    3. The Second Coming: Jesus Christ is coming bodily to earth to rule and judge.

    4. Salvation: It is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

    5. The Scripture: It is entirely inerrant and sufficient for all Christian life.

When the fundamentals were first published many Protestant churches were included, as are many today.

It is an error to assume only militant separatists can be rightly called fundamentalists.

In his book, "The History of Fundamentalism in America" Dr. George W. Dollar shows the three categories of historic fundamentalism:

    1. The Militant Fundamentalist - the strict separatist who not only separates from all perceived apostasy but also denounces those who do not.

    2. The Moderate Fundamentalist - one who practices a looser form of separation and does not denounces those who do not.

    3. Modified Fundamentalist - What are generally called "Neo Evangelical" today. They believe the fundamentals but decry separatism but rather practice inclusivism.

So, even a New Evangelical is a fundamentalist according to the historic meaning of the word. It is only the modern, revisionist use of the term fundamentalist to mean "me and those like me." :)

It is odd. One can examine what they believe concerning the gospel and arrive at a position that they could be misguided Christians (based solely on what they claim to believe in this regard) or one could determine that they possess a cognitive knowledge of a faith that is foreign to that church.

Perhaps they possess gospel knowledge and their sermons (when not preaching hate) are not foreign to many Christian churches…yet they miss the very fundamental aspect of Christianity - that is, being in Christ. Their “fruit” demonstrates an absence of such a position and, I believe, distinguishes them from being considered fundamental as the label is applied to Christian churches/individuals (even demons believe). I think that the historic requirements to be considered fundamental assume a position in Christ, which appears lacking in the case of WBC.

Westboro acts anything BUT Christ like. As they preach hate. And that now that their leader is no more, hopefully this is the beginning of the end of this so-called "church!"
