The real sad thing is, there are people parroting this line right here, in our little ministry. You would think abolishing the death penalty & allowing abortion were the central part of Christ's message.

The "teachings of Christ" are repentance. Without repentance, there will be no forgiveness. When you preach "the teachings of Christ" the way the keft has twisted his message, you send people to hell.

I don't like it one bit. I am saddened this is how far Satan has been allowed into the Church, that a Christian would use something like this, just to score a political point, when if this was Christ's true message, you would be able to see him abolishing his father's death penalty, you would see him advocating for taxing the rich, you would see him stifling business, see him forming labor unions, and you would see him forgiving everyone. Remember folks, he let one of the thieves he died with go to hell. No forgiveness.

Your source is not Pew. It's an opinion column by Phill Zuckerman thru Huffpo.

A well known athiest apologist who continually attacks every facet of Christianity.

...And you took sides with him. What a sad surprise.:tear:

Wow, a lot of hate in such a short article, I thought liberals were open minded. According to the columnist these particular Christians he writes about are -white, uneducated, greedy, war-mongering, and violent.

Well Said  Here are a few passages, I don't see anything about social justice or the environment.

    Matthew 3
1In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

    Matthew 4
17From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 18And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 19And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. 21And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. 23And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. 24And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. 25And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.

    Oh, heres a good one

    Matthew 7
15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

It's true when it comes to things like abolishing the death penalty, peace at the expense of freedom, enabling poor choices in the name of taking care of the poor, advaning fake global warming claims -enacting environmental intiatives that aren't really about the environment but more so about advancing political idealogies, income redistribution awarding entitlement while discouraging individual achievement, advocating for the death of the unborn, denying free speech under the guise of tolerance, etc., then I'm guilty as charged because Jesus did not advance these liberal pet causes and neither am I.

There are no new accusations in it that we all haven't heard before about how mean spirited, hypocritical, and uncaring conservative evangelicals are. And, he is entitled to his opinion. In my opinion this professor and his pal need to get a life. I bet he just loves filling his wonderful students chop full of his anti-Christian propaganda.

Ha, ha, ha! Your two authors are preaching something very different than Jesus did. Here's just one clear evidence of that in their foolish thinking:

"They [speaking of Evangelicals] hate anything that smacks of "socialism," even though that is essentially what their Savior preached."

Sorry, friend, but Jesus didn't preach "socialism" or even the a "social gospel" and twisting mercy, compassion, love, etc. into that political doctrine for self benefit is a sad misuse of the gospel message.

People that read the Bible this way don't understand the difference between the temporal and the eternal. They think Jesus came to solve all their earthly problems through social revolution and a caretaker government.

These confused children grow up to be radicals who use the name of Jesus to foster revolution against legitimate civil authority and then to seize the wealth of others out of their own greed in the name of an illegitimate civil authority. They themselves become corrupt dictators who seek to suppress the very liberties that God blessed us to have in our nation. Unfortunately, they've made some progress in our nation in recent times.

Your lack of defense for the article you posted makes me think you posted it to be provacative. You may not even be aware of anything it said, beonly cause you certainly cannot muster a word to back any of it's assertions.

    From the article:

Evangelicals love Jesus for what he does for them. Through his magical grace, and by shedding his precious blood, Jesus saves Evangelicals from everlasting torture in hell, and guarantees them a premium, luxury villa in heaven. For this, and this only, they love him.

To say that evangelicals only love Christ for saving their souls shows this writer has no clue as to the mindset of evangelicals.

Anyway, in Christ's own words on why He came to earth. From the Bible:

Luke 19:10 "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."

    From the article:

Jesus unambiguously preached mercy and forgiveness.

    From the Bible:

John 5:25 "Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, 27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation."

John 3:18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

I always find it funny reading what lost people have to say about Christians, especially conservative Christians - how we've drifted so far from the teachings of Christ. They couldn't recognize the teachings of Christ if it smacked them in the head.

There was more "stuff" in that article than the septic tank service truck I was following this morning. Even more troubling are Christians who post and believe this "stuff."
