The statement shows it's ignorance because it fails to realize there is an already moderate, secularized form of Islam in the world.

I know plenty of moderate Muslims. These are rational people who don't want to blow everything up. In fact if you read the Koran you'll see a more moderate form thy it's radical interpreters.

Islamic scholars have no real problem with the teachings of
Muhammad ibn Abd-al-Wahhab because what he taught is in the Koran.

Islam is what it is and muslims are what they are. They are all taught out of the same book. Some choose not to strictly observe all the Koran's teachings, but if they someday do decide to murder a few infidels or murder their daughter because she falls in love with a non-believer, not many muslims will have much to say about it.

It's a religion based on violence spread by violence that teaches violence and excuses violence against any who do not believe.

There are a number of schools of Islam and Wahhabism is only one of them. Unfortunately our ally, Saudi Arabi, follows Wahhabism and as they have lots of money and used that money and people to spread Wahhabism ... it has spread. This has, to some degree, come back to bite the Saudi royal family as it has breed violent groups who have many goals, one being the overthrowing of the Saudi royal family. Wahhab emphasized violence.

There are moderate followers of Islam. I met a Moslem woman from Jordan who earned a masters degree in conflict resolution at the Christian Eastern Mennonite University. She returned to Jordan to work for peace.

She said upon reading English language translation of the Koran she was horrified and appalled in that it is a very bad translation and emphasizes violence where violence is not emphasized in the Koran that is written in Arabic.

...because of course the Bible isn't a violent book, is it?

"Is there such thing as moderate Islam?"

No. There is Islam. Now, there are those that follow the religion properly (the so called radicals) and there are those that are "pew sitters".

I believe that a Christian can backslide & then get himself right with God. My view of "moderate Islam" is the same. The so-called "moderate Muslims" are backsliding to their god. All it takes is for them to get their hearts right with their god & then before you know it they are blowing themselves up with everything around them. To answer the question: I believe that its just a ploy to hide radical Islam.

Is there such a thing as moderate Christians? The Bible refers to them as being "lukewarm".

There are plenty of "moderate" nice Muslims who have no blood lust to kill non-Muslims. They most likely do not even know their own Qu'ran.

Just like there are plenty of Christians who do not even know their own Bible. However, it seems that many who do not know their Bible are the radicals.

There is no such thing as a true "moderate" form of Islam, and neither is there any such thing as a true "moderate" form of Christianity.

There are people who do not practice, know, or follow all the tenets of any given religion. It is the people who are moderate, not the religion.

The same could be said using the term "liberal" and also the term "radical" (as expressed in a fundamentalistic way).

Because it's a quote of what I wrote, I totally agree with it and, reading it again today, think it sums up the situation very nicely!
