Featured Learning to play music.

Right now I own a Gibson Les Paul Studio, a Gibson SG, two Fender American Strats, one Fender American Tele, a Squier Tele, two Squier 51s, and an Epiphone Casino. I did own an Ovation Balladeer acoustic, but gave it to my pastor, and an old Sigma (Martin) D4 acoustic.

For amps I own a Marshall MHZ 15 (awesome amp), a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, a Fender Blus Jr., an Epiphone Valve Jr., and a completely original '58 Premier Twin Eight amp. I would like to pick up the Marshall 5 watt amp, I love the sound of Marshall's! I own several speaker cabs with Vintage 30s, and several other speakers I can't remember right now.

I couldn't tell you how many effects pedals I own, but dozens, and I also own a full PA system with all the junk that comes with that.

I have actually been trying to get rid of stuff, I gave a full PA system to my church.

But yes, the best sound there is is a Les Paul into a Marshall amp. There is nothing comes close.

Edit- In that video, Mark our bass player built that bass from scratch. He is a real craftsman, that thing plays like butter. He has built several basses, they are real works of art.

 

Thanks for sharing that Winman. It gives me an entirely different perspective of you than I got from our various arguments.

I've played in several bands myself so I understand the noise thing. One thing I would hope to convict you of, however... That you not set aside a gift that God gave you because you feel convicted that it was in error. Take up and play for God's glory -- yes, even hot licks in church -- He's okay with us playing music for His worship and there is no rule except the rule of man that says that it has to be some hymn from a former era.

I grew up playing Rock, but I was never rebellious. I believe in freedom, not rebellion. Lot's of folks don't know that's what the Beatles were saying in Revolution.

I am a free thinker, that is why you do not understand me. I read the Bible and ask God to tell me what it means, I do not mindlessly accept the teachings of others, that is, UNLESS they agree with the word of God.

You have seen why I disagree, I show scripture to support my views.

As far as music, I have tried the modern Christian music. It is just as worldly as the Rock music I played, maybe worse. I couldn't go on playing that stuff, I don't want to be worldly anymore, had enough. I am very happy to play traditional hymns, that was my own choice and I am very happy with it.

 

Unfortunately, I believe that you are doing the pendulum swing in your doctrines to atone for your past behaviors. You certainly come off as a stuffed shirt dude! As far as being a "free thinker" I'm not convinced that we are ever offered that position by God. I believe the same Scriptures that you search says that we are to have in us the same mind that Christ had. Look it up... :laugh:

I agree about the mind of Christ, but seeing we disagree, we cannot both have that can we?

If you want to mindlessly conform to what you have been taught, that is your choice, not mine.

We ALL learn from someone. God didn't just magically plop his Word into your hands from above (ala the golden tablets of Mormonism or the Koran of Islam). MEN worked over the centuries, formulated doctrines, and translated that word in and out of various languages until it arrives in our hands today. Same with the doctrines that we hold dear as Christians -- God, Trinity, Christ, soreriology, ecclesiology, etc.

Nothing happens in a vacuum and when I find someone claiming such I have to take a step back and realize that their claim stems from one of two places -- total ignorance of the truth, or wilfull fundamentalism of a nature akin to cults. Not sure which camp to place you, but I'll give you the opportunity to re-think your comment first.

Yeah, it's like an addiction, looking for that perfect sound. I forgot all about my recording equipment, didn't mention that, and an old Danelectro 56-U2 electric. I have a bunch of broken stuff as well. :laugh:

I used to earn pretty good money playing weekends, but I would spend it all on new equipment.

The point of that song is you can't let anybody tell you what to play. I am perfectly happy playing traditional music. I don't need to be like everybody else. I like music that praises and glorifies the Lord without calling attention to myself.
