Saw this in one of my right-wing-nuthouse blogs....I thought it woud better fit here, than in the humor forum...

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing.
He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."
"OH NO!" the president exclaims. "That's terrible!"
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the president sits, head in hands. Finally, president looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

    Another one for you.

A Marine squad was marching north of Basra when they
came upon an insurgent badly injured and unconscious.
Nearby, on the opposite side of the road, was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state.

The Marine was conscious and alert. As first aid was given to both men. The Marine was asked what had happened.

The Marine reported, "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. Seeing each other we both took cover.

I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable low-life scum bag, and he yelled back that Teddy Kennedy is a rich, good-for-nothing fat drunk.

We were standing there shaking hands when a truck hit us."

Because we prefer to believe that it is a joke, only a joke, not real....

I thought both the jokes were funny, but the Bushisms are flat out depressing.

I suggest then you avoid reading Bill Mauldin's Up Front collection of WWII stories and cartoons. SGT Mauldin drew for Stars and Stripes. His Willy and Joe cartoons caused him to be banned by GEN Patton from the Third Army's Area of Operations.

Humor is one way of dealing with the enormity of death.

A little humor is good in most any aspect of life.

In some cases, it fulfills the old saying, "I'm laughing to keep from crying!"

Humor is also an antidote for a bad case of the "seriouses"! (This is one that is in epidemic proportions in politics and the public arena anymore; terrible case of the "seriouses"!

I have a very good sense of humor. I love a good funny. However at this point in history talking about death on a battlefield hits a little to close to home. Thousands upon thousands are risking their lives for our freedoms. A Joke is supoosed to be funny. People left dead are not.

I take it you know little or nothing about the late Bill Mauldin. (Who as Charles (Sparky) (Charlie Brown) Shultz noted knew how to draw mud.)

Mr. Mauldin was drafted into the Army and assigned to the 45th ID. While Stateside, his talent as a cartoonist got him a slot on the Division newspaper. Soon, he and the 45ID were on their way to Operation TORCH and the liberation of North Africa. With the end of the North African Campaign, the 45 took part in the invasion of Scily and Anzio landings. Somewhere about this time, SGT Mauldin's talents came to the attention of the staff of Stars and Stripes. He was transferred to S&S in time for Operation DRAGOON, the invasion of Southern France. SGT Mauldin and S&S spent the rest of the war following the fighting north and east at the divisional level.

In other words, Mauldin was a man who got shot at. I suggest you take a look at his work and reconsider your position.

I am not talking about Mauldin. I looked at some of his work. I am talking about the origanl joke belittling the lives of soldiers. That joke at this point in history when our men and women are dying daily for our freedom is tacky at best. I get it is allright because the soldiers are from Brazil and not America. To me the horror of war and humor just doesn't blend well.

I have kids over there that where in my youth group. I pray for them daily. I have relatives there. I have friends there. If they came home in a flag draped coffin it would not a joking matter.

I didn't check out all the cartoons but, I never saw one where he made of joke of dying.

    Oh brother....

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing.
He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers joined the coalition."
"That's awesome!!!!!" the president exclaims. "I'm so happy!!!!"
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the president sits, counting his fingers. Finally, president looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

Does that suit you better ?
