I know a lot of negative stuff is said about Bush (and sometimes rightfully so!) but the President by any viewpoint has done some good and I thought we could use a thread discussing just that. So, what do you consider his most important accomplishment? I'd have to go with tax cuts.

Added some balance to the SCOTUS.

Confronting terrorism, inadvertently fighting against the "New World Order" he seems intent on establishing.

Nice, classy thing to say, Ken. :(

His greatest accomplishment is the grace he has shown to the people who daily lie about him.

Being a believer (as he claims to be).

    Being a family man.

Having the guts to offer a solution to the Social Security mess that no one wants to tackle and that the weaklings would not support.

    John Roberts.

    Partial Birth Abortion act.

Tax cuts for working Americans (EGTRRA).

And, how many children has it saved?

    Zero.

Know how they get around it? By not partially birthing the baby before cutting its head off. In other words, by doing it the regular abortion way. The child is still just as dead, but many Republicans feel better about themselves, so I guess it's okay.:BangHead:

Yes, Brother James, the Republicans have become like the Democrats - as long as they feel like they have done something the practical impact doesn't matter.

I think that you have mentioned his greatest achievements. I admire him for his grace while taking a beating from his critics.

However, I think his finest hour was his standing up for the USA after Nine Eleven and leading the country into war against these Islamic terrorists. If it had not been for George W. Bush, I am not sure that anyone would have stood up for the USA. History will be kind to the Bush Family for their great personal sacrifices for the USA. Most rich people just lead degenerate lives or spend their days trying to get even richer. I don't think that Prescott Bush, George Herbert Walker Bush, or George Walker Bush can be considered anything but 100% American patriots. The are truly one of the greatest families in American history. God Bless The President of The United States of America!

Here's where we strongly disagree. I think Dubya will be viewed by history as one of the most inept and dangerous men to ever occupy the office of President. He has attacked the Constitution he has sworn to uphold, and the rich got richer with his tax cuts, while the middle class continues to shrink. Wealth continues to be redistributed to the top, while middle class jobs are exported. He attacked the wrong country and lost focus on Bin Laden.

I guess time will tell which view is the one future historians will hold.

I'll grant Bush one thing, and it probably is his greatest achievement.

For the first couple of months after 9/11, he appeared to be a good leader. He said the right things at ground zero to stir up Americans, and he had the backing of most of the world. Now, the argument could be made that it was simply thrust upon him, and, like Giuliani, he was simply the one there when it happened. In any case, he certainly appeared Presidential at that time and he was strongly supported by the vast majority of Americans and the world.

    (Now, back to reality)

Unfortunately, he botched all that by using his popularity to push through some idiotic policies and forge the way to a war with Iraq.

Had 9/11 not occurred, there would have been no Iraq war. Had Bush, and patriotism in general, not been so popular at the time, there would have been no Iraq war.

Yet another reason to grieve over 9/11.

I agree with all the above, but his greatest achievement was keeping Al Gore and John Kerry from being President.
