Could you provide us with a list of names? This could be its own thread - I would like to see who and what the circumstances were.

Since Baptists and Pilgrims and Puritans, etc, did not use the AV1611 (they had the Geneva Bible; why use a government church Anglican Bible?) if any were killed "defending" the KJV it was not likely one of us . . .

David Michael Harris, I am very disgusted that you, as a Christian, could bring yourself to use such evil language about the King James Version. Regardless of the opinions of the majority on this board, I am very convinced that NO modern version of the Bible, comes near to the KJV as a faithful translation of the Holy Bible. Espacially since we know that the Committee members for the Greek text used for the majority MV's, were "heretical" in their views on the Authority of the Bible. (check it out here http://www.wayoflife.org/articles/modern2.htm)

From that site:
"The founder/director is David W. Cloud."

Nuff for me to quit reading. While he isn't
as bad as some "F" Bible scholars who
practically worship the wrong KJBO, the
KJV of 1769 instead of the KJV of 1611 --
He is a "D minus" Bible scholar.

</font>
Whether you like David Cloud is not important. The article of what the translators of the USB and N-A Greek Texts believe on the Bible is accurate, and well documented.

av1611jim, there is finally a point we agree on! I thought it might never happen, brother... [IMG]

I agree that we should abstain from anything that might even appear evil, especially to others. If we participate in things that others, especially non-Christians, might view as questionable, we may be throwing a "stumbling block" (Rom 14:13; 1 Cor 8:9) in front of them, If we do this and we damage our own witness for Christ, we may be totally "messing up" that person's only chance to hear the Gospel and to accept Christ as Savior. Should any of us risk this happening?

It is certain that the average Joe will not be as liguistically adept as those of us who have been reading the Bible for forty years. Yet I hesitate to see too much danger in using the AV. Even the "erroneous" interpretation is true, as taught, for instance, in 2 Cor. 8:21. So the Average Joe (and Barnes, as quoted above) won't really be led astray.

Besides, I haven't seen the use of modern translations help any of you fellows understand the verses where you disagree with my interpretations! [IMG]

I heard Lester preaching somewhere in the '70s when he told us "And you don't need to rewrite it, neither. You just need to re-read it." I still miss him.

I will stand just close enough to you to slap you upside the head!
"Screw the 1611 KJV"?
People have DIED defending the KJV.
How dare you!?

In HIS service;
Jim
</font>
My apologies.
In my haste and anger I mis-spoke. The people who have died "defending the KJV" I had in mind were the people who died trying to bring to the English speaking people a Bible in their own language during the intensly dangerous times of 1200-1600. Many were killed by the RCC in this effort. It was to that whole period of time I was referring to and to those brave men who ultimately brought us the KJV. I also had in mind the various precursors to the KJV, i.e. Geneva, Wycliffe, Tyndale, et al.

Sorry guys for the confusion. :(

Nevertheless, the statement I was responding to is/was evil.

In HIS service;
Jim

Ah, so "people have died defending the KJV" means "people have died defending something other than the KJV."

KJV-onlyist "logic" at its finest. [IMG]

What meaning do you give the word Icthus, out of the heart the mouth speaks, I know the meaning that you have attached to it, maybe I should have said, 'stuff it' do you find that disgusting too or maybe, 'stick it in a draw and get a new version' !!

I just noticed that in my original post it says, 'attack on the word of God snipped'

You have to be joking...surley my Lord would have had something to say to me if I had offended Him?

</font>
Acceptability of words are down to a persons understanding of them or is there some universal database for all words used by different people, for people who study Greek and Hebrew I find 'your' ( 'your' having more than one meaning you know ) lack of understanding and tolerance quite alarming.

Expletive is another nice one...but comes out negative...

I must say though that the meaning that I attached to the word that was snipped is 'do away with it' 'it's not good for today' 'not good for current situation' 'away with it' sorry if I offended.

I guess its the same with wine and food or 'anything else' not to offend a brother or sister for whom Christ died for.

I apologise.

Every idle word comes to mind!

Interesting results:

Poll Results: 1 Thessalonians 5:22 (18 votes.)
1 Thessalonians 5:22
Choose 1

anything that look like it might be evil 39% (7)
any occurance of evil 56% (10)
none of these or "i don't understand" 6% (1)

This shows that a clear (but small) majority
of readers here see what the Scripture
intended -- evil is to be avoided, no matter
in what circumstances or disguise it might
appear.

(especially as opposed to something that
is not evil but just looks evil. I had a
friend that went into the strip joint every
day for a week. He did get their air conditioner
going [IMG] )
