I won one very similar to that on ebay last year. It's a great fine and like yours, mine only cost a few bucks!

In Psalm LXXXVI (86), before verse 1 the KJV
    1611 Edition says:

    || A prayer of Dauid.

    Sidenote:
    || Or, a prayer, being a Psalme of Dauid

    old bible

I have a family Bible from 1859 that says it has

"With the marginal readings and original selected and parallel referenes printed at length."

It also has Scott's and Henry's commentaries in condensed footnote form.

1857 - James Buchanan was POTUS, right before the American Civil War.
It would be interesting to see if there were any inserts or written notes in the pages.

TTim, the picture provided is blurred but from what I can tell there are quite a few more notes than in the original 1611 KJV.

Looks like it will need to be restored too. Big $$$$$

I'm not really interested in restoring it right now...
I like the "Character" of antiques... blemishes and all.
    So that is no problem...

Congrats! I saw it, too; I'm now glad I didn't bid against you. I don't normally go for 'old' Bibles but it was going cheap. The really collectible ones are over 300 years old and too expensive for me. I do have our passed down Family Bible (about 150), a 200+ year old German Bible, and a couple others. My focus has been English translations since 1900, of which I now possess about 100 different (not sure of the exact number).

Wow that is nice! I have purchased an 1830's publication of George Washington's letters and an 1890 Webster dictionary, ebay. I want to get an antiquated Bible as you found also and what a great find.

    take care.

I got the bible through mail today, and I love it...
I compared this note, along with others and the sidenotes are the same except for updated spelling (David over Dauid)

And it is not in as bad a shape as I thought it was, the pics on ebay didn't do it justice..

I was just wondering how much this Bible would have cost someone when it was new in $1857?

Is there a place to find this out?
