Since we are semi-retired, we can take a number of trips each year for fun. Most to see grandkids (priority).

Wondering where BB MEMBERS ARE HEADING in 2016 - vacation, family, etc

I think we will have two vacations happening this year. Both will be on the boat and the first one will be in June with us traveling from our harbor to New York City and we will stay for the weekend. We go with a group of other boats and it's so fun! The second trip will be in August and we will be going a little farther than we have before and we will get to Nantucket, MA this year. We usually go to Martha's Vineyard and basically Nantucket will add at least 3 days to our trip: one to get there, one to stay and one to come back. We will see how this goes this year! :)

I'll be heading up to climb Katadin again (Baxter State Park, Maine) in late June.
I still have some bruise marks from my trip last July.

This time we'll take the newly restored Abol Trail rather than the brutal Cathedral Trail...staying away from Knife Edge... I'm not that crazy!

I usually take most of December off to be with the kids, but I'll be away in a class tgis winter. So that leaves me with a bunch of vacation to burn up.

We've rented a cabin in the Tennessee mountains for a week in July, bringing my wife's parents with us.

Got 4 trips in May-August, of which are REAL "vacations".
    1. My daughter and hubby have 2 weeks in Europe. We go instead to watch their kids in Wisconsin.
    2. ARBCA church convocation in Obamaland
    3. Convention for the wife's Clinic in Long Beach
    4. 45th reunion of seminary; 50th high school reunion and seeing relatives.

We started 2016 with a cruise. Need another this fall - will have to see how wife's health is holding up after the summer travels

Our problem is that we live in a resort. Anywhere we go turns into an anti-climax. We do have a week in Cancun scheduled in February 2017, but nothing for this year.

If you have a motor home or 5th wheel travel trailer we have 99 RV spots with full hookups and concrete patios. Full use of the facilities are included. Swimming pool, Hot tub, shuffle board court, horseshoe pits, card rooms, quilt rooms, pool tables (5), full library, sitting room, theater (live and film), Sunday Worship Service, full commercial kitchen, Bar-B-Que pit, WiFi, laundry facilities, shower facilities, and daily activities including group day trips to historic or otherwise interesting sights. We also have an old fashioned Ice Cream Social every Sunday afternoon, and Dances on Monday evening, Jams, Bingo, Billiard tournaments, Cards, Arts & Crafts, Horse Shoe tournaments, Dinners, Tours, and even a Ladies Day Out. :)

RVE is a fully gated community. You must be 55+ to live here, or to rent an RV lot. Kids/grand kids can visit for up to two weeks per year. (Not to mention we are about 30 minutes from South Padre Island on the Gulf Coast.) We also have a full service Motel just outside the gate.

We are also only about 5 miles from the Mexican border and we go down to a very nice little town a couple times a month. The town caters to "Winter Texans" - people from the cold north (like Dr. Burrrr - uh, I mean Dr. Bob) who come down for 5 or 6 months to take advantage of our tropical climate.

As a big plus there are about 300 excellent restaurants (most locally owned) within a mile of our front gate.

(We live in one of the 300+ privately owned permanent homes. A nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1400 square feet very comfortable retirement home.)

Wow, everything sounds so ideal. Beyond ideal.

I hate to bring up negatives, but since you live so close to the border --Are there any drug or criminal problems in your area? I know you live in a gated community, as you said, but...

TCassidy - That sounds fantastic!! Hubby is 56 this year so we could come but I don't know that you are near any water and every vacation/lifestyle we choose needs to be near water. :) He's actually right now in Florida on the Gulf Coast and called me from the beach SOOOO happy. Our retirement will be spent living on board a boat at least for the earlier years. He's actually going to the manufacturer of the boat we want to check out what they have for sale right now and check out their new model. We can't buy our dream boat just yet as there is no way for us to afford it unless we sell the house but in a few years, we can sell the house and the boat we want will be a few years old so hopefully financially we will match. :)

No. It is very quiet here. No drug or criminal problems. Most of the horror stories you read about the border are media hype. Invent a circus to sell their "product" - the blown all out of proportion "news." :)

Assume Obamaland is Chicago? Love the city. Lots to do there. Great food.

Hope you enjoy the fall cruise. We did one last year -- leaving out of Quebec City and ending in Boston. To start with, we flew to Montreal (flight much cheaper than to Quebec City) and stayed there for two days, and then took the train to QC. The ship actually stayed in QC overnight - which gave us a day and a half of exploring before the ship left port. PM if you want more information and I'll be happy to share.

Going to Europe this summer. Have to be in Germany for about a week and then free to explore. Lots of options to fill in the following week - depending on whether we head north, south, east or west. Any suggestions or recommendations??

My kids want to go to the creation museum in Kentucky this year. Seems like a good idea except it will be hot in July.

It's a museum that AIG (Answers In Genesis) built to educated the public on biblical creation. You can check it out here: http://creationmuseum.org/

That AIG seems like it will and is a good thing. As would love to see anything Biblical!
