The OP is about a 24 hour sinless day not becoming more and more sinless. Many have skirted the issue in one way or another.
Some (at least one) has made claim to several sinless years.

The Scripture I gave is just one of many which show this to be an impossibility for anyone (except of course Jesus).

    I'm no exception.

Do these things in the 1 Thessalonian 5 passage happen every day in our lives?

"rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing" ? Even when a driver cuts you off on the way to work?

OBTW, going 61 miles an hour in a 60MPH zone is disobeying the law of the land.

    and on and on...

    1 John 1:9

The above statement is an impossibility. God's Word says 'Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fullfill the lusts of the flesh.'.

If you are walking in the Spirit, there is not going to be a 'when I sin.' If there were, then God's Word would be a lie.

And I repeat, it is possible to go 24 hours without sin. When one is yielded over to the things of God, all things are poossible to them that believe.

That is not entirely accurate. Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is commanding believers to do all those things. The list is not an example of an ideal life, it is what we are commanded to do all the time.

I do not see how anyone can claim that they do all those things for a full 24 hours - I can't even do all of them perfectly for 1 hour.

If you can go 24 hours without commiting a sin can you go 48 hours? Or how about a week, or a month or year? Maybe you won't ever commit a sin?

There is only one, JESUS, who is sinless. The rest of us sin all the time.

All the time, Bill? Even when you are praying? when you are obeying God's Word and assembling with other believers? when fasting? There is a great list in the Bible of things God tells us to do that, if we do them, we certainly can go longer than 24 hours.

When praying? Unfoutunatly yes I have sinned while praying. If a stray thought enters my mind and takes me away from communicatiing with the Lord then yes I have sinned while praying. Can you tell me that has NEVER happened to you. When assembling with other believers? Ever had a problem with someone at church? It happens to me.

I am not perfect, I am human, I have a sin nature therefore I will sin. The Lord will and has already forgiven my sins, but that dosen't make me perfect it only makes me forgiven.

When I go to the Sanctuary to worship and to hear the preaching of the Word, I do not entertain thoughts of people who have wronged me, or are doing other things than pay attention.

We go to hear the Word of the Lord. If a thought enters the mind during that time, we still have the ability to submit ourselves to God and then resist the devil. If one follows that simple rule, one should not sin while praying or hearing the preaching of the Word.

As Jesus Christ Himself said, "All things are possible". ]

Since Jesus Christ Himself said, "with God all things are possibe," then it has to be possible, but only by being submitted to God and thereby being "with God".

God bless you then if you can live up to the Scriptures which were given.

    I admire you for that.

I guess I am not as strong of a Christian as you, since I sin on a daily basis weather I want to or not.

How long can you go without sinning? Given your statments perfection seems possible for you. I know its possible for me.

    BBB and Hank,
Some really excellent thoughts there. Sometimes when frustrated with an opposing point of view, it is good to start a thread, as others usually express my feelings in their words much better than I can.

Instead of making excuses why we sin, why not believe the Word and try to live the Word.

Paul did not willfully sin, he stated that 'the evil that I would not, that I do.'

Paul instructed the reader through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." If it were not possible to overcome, if it were not possible to submit to God and resist the devil, the commands would not have been given to do so.

Daniel purposed himself not to defile himself with the king's meat and drink. Can we not do the same? When temptations come, do we truly have to give in to them?

Paul wrote that there is a way of escape, yet many choose to not even look for that escape.

Perfection is possible for all of God's Children, Bill.

    The Bible would not say:
2 Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Even some in Paul's time were considered as being perfect, for we read:
Philippians 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

The thing is, to be perfect, we must be submitted to God, wholly to His service, yielded to His hands to be molded into that which He would have us be.

But, alas, we still sin... some more than others, but we still fall from time to time.

But because we do fall from time to time, does that mean we are to give up on striving to be that vessel that He would have us be?

Another example of distorting the Word of God by holding to the KJV and not understanding the KJV language...

    Perfect meant mature in 1611..
the definition has changed over the last 400 yrs...

It is impossible to be perfect (today's definition) you are the only one that I have ever seen that claims it to be possible.

Get you a bible that translates the verse into today's language, and you will learn some things...

    Philippians 3:15 NIV
    (15)
All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.

I see no definition for mature in the Greek for perfect in Philippians 3:15, tim.

Sometimes by that method you can learn things that aren't so. In v. 12 Paul said he wasn't perfect. In v. 15 he said he was. When a modern version tries to split this hair by retranslating, it's a double-shuffle.

All I know is there are too many exhortations in the Bible that say

Be Holy, Be perfect, be sober, be vigilent, walk, watch, resist, pray, abstain, etc

they had to be put there for a reason. If it were not possible, they would not have been put there.

All these are possible, but only when we Submit ourselves under the mighty hand of God.
