Methodist: Adam Clarke (AD 1760 or AD 1762 – AD 1832) Commentary:

    Daniel 8:14:

"Unto two thousand and three hundred days - Though literally it be two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings. Yet I think the prophetic day should be understood here, as in other parts of this prophet, and must signify so many years. …" - http://biblehub.com/commentaries/clarke/daniel/8.htm

    Daniel 8:26:

“... The vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true - That mentioned in Daniel 8:14.

For it shall be for many days - Not less than two thousand three hundred years! ...” - http://biblehub.com/commentaries/clarke/daniel/8.htm

Methodist: Rev. Joseph Benson (AD 1749 – AD 1821) Commentary:

    Daniel 8:13:

“... It must, however, be remembered, that many interpreters understand these days in the same sense in which days are generally understood by this prophet, namely, for years; and thus refer the prophecy to antichrist, ... This will carry us on to a still distant time in the church of God, to the completion of that opposition to the church of Christ which has been wished for long since, when the sanctuary will be perfectly cleansed, and to which the twelve hundred ninety and thirteen hundred thirty-five years of chap. 12. must have a reference. Sir Isaac Newton, Obs., chap. 9., not only reckons the days to be years, but will have the horn to be Rome, and does not refer it at all to Antiochus; and in this he is followed, in a great measure, by Bishop Newton ...” - http://biblehub.com/commentaries/benson/daniel/8.htm

Calvinism (German): Johann Peter Lange's (AD 10 April 1802, - AD 9 July 1884) Commentary on the Old Testament of AD 1882:

Daniel 8:14 [Lange cites others prevalent]:

“... that class of interpreters, quite common in this country and Great Britain, but comparatively rare in Germany, who understand by the days in question so many years, and generally apply the prophecy to the continuance of the papal supremacy. ... Others, adopting the same substitution of years for “days,”... Elliott, the strongest advocate of this theory ... Horæ Apocalypticæ ...” - http://biblehub.com/commentaries/lange/daniel/8.htm

English Baptist: John Gill (AD 23 November 1697 – AD 14 October 1771):

    Daniel 8:14:

“... unto two thousand and three hundred days; or so many "mornings" and "evenings" ... so many years, as Jacchiades, and others ...” - http://biblehub.com/commentaries/gill/daniel/8.htm

Sir Isaac Newton (AD 25 December 1642 – AD 20 March 1727) Commentary:

    Daniel 8:14:

"...[8] Daniel, one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. Daniel's days are years ...

... The Sanctuary and Host were trampled under foot 2300 days; and in Daniel's Prophecies days are put for years: but the profanation of the Temple in the reign of Antiochus did not last so many natural days. …" - Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, the Apocalypse of St. John; Chapter IX - http://books.google.com/books?id=s1_EkzlLWrMC&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false

Even a Roman Catholic (Layman, Scientist): Arnold of Villanova (AD 1235 – AD 1313), on Daniel 8:14:

    Daniel 8:14:

"... When he says 'two thousand three hundred days' it must be said that by days he understands years. This is clear through the explanation of the angel when he says that in the end the vision will be fulfilled, from which he gives it to be understood by clear expression that in that vision by days are understood years. ..." - Translated from Arnold of Villanova, Introductio in Librum [Joachim] De Semine, fol. 7 v, col. 2, line 34 to fol. 8 r, col. 1, line 2.

"... It is not unaccustomed, in the Scripture of God, for days to under-stand years. Nay, it is certainly usual and frequent. Whence also the Spirit in Ezekiel testifies: 'A day for a year I have reckoned to you. ..." - Translated from Arnold of Villanova, Introductio in Librum [Joachim] De Semine,, fol. 8 r, col. 1, lines 14-20.

As translated/quoted in Leroy Edwin Froom, The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, Volume 1; Page 750

" ... 'Up to the evening and the morning, two thousand three hundred days.' By a day, however, he understands a year. ..." - Tractatus de Tempore Adventus Antichristi (Treatise on the Time of the Coming of Antichrist), fol. 59 v, col. 2 to fol. 60 r, col. 2.

As translated/quoted in LeRoy Edwin Froom, The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, Volume 1, Page 752

" ... 'From the time when the continual sacrifice will have been taken away, and there will have been set up'—that is, up to the time when will be set up—`the abomination upon the desolation' namely, of the faithful people, 'a thousand two hundred and ninety days.' And here, just as above, by a day a year is understood, which is clear through what precedes, since it says 'And when the dispersion of the power of the holy people, all these things will be completed.' ..." - Tractatus de Tempore Adventus Antichristi (Treatise on the Time of the Coming of Antichrist), fol. 61 r, col. 2, line 28 to fol. 61 v, col. 1, lin.

As translated/quoted in LeRoy Edwin Froom, The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, Volume 1, Page 753

" ... it is certain, as was clear above, that Daniel under the name of days gives us to understand years and not usual days ...”

“... such an understanding agrees with the common concepts of men and the truth of Sacred Scripture commonly known. ..." - Tractatus de Tempore Adventus Antichristi (Treatise on the Time of the Coming of Antichrist), fol. 63 r, col. 1, lines 21-32.

As translated/quoted in LeRoy Edwin Froom, The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, Volume 1, Page 754-755

    !

The above grandiloquence is of such magnitude it won't have plain for plumbers, Scriptures.

Claimed: <<<demonstrated from the Scripture, let us consider a little more the Year, Jesus was to die.>>> and off you go with one heck of a book of dates and names and politicking WHILE THERE IS NOT A SCRIPTURE telling its poorest reader, me, <<<the Year, Jesus was to die>>> what died!!

Must one have to have a master's degree in history, in mathematics and in language each at least to be saved?

    PS

    ...and nowadays, in Information Technology.

I cannot wait. I have not yet compiled the following with the English. But the Scriptures are given and the transliteration of the Greek Text. I cannot wait because the above garbage must be exposed for what it really is : just garbage.

I therefore place as far as I have finished ...

Brother, Scripture has already detailed the final week for us, in a quick snapshot of the collective events:

[the 7th Day Sabbath of the LORD thy God]

Jesus at Lazarus' house in Bethany [Mt. Olivet] - [John 12:1]- http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2213995&postcount=27

[the first [day] of the week]

Jesus Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, "the next day" from leaving Lazarus' house, Hosanna! - [John 12:12,13; Matthew 21:10; Mark 11:11], goes to the Temple, and after looking around, leaves, since it was close to evening back out unto Mt. Olivet.

[the second [day] of the week]

Jesus comes back, curses the fig tree, goes to the Temple, and cleanses the Temple for the Second [last] time of the Money Changers - [Matthew 21:12,13,17; Mark 11:12,15,16,17,19], and Jesus goes back out.

[the third [day] of the week]

Jesus comes back, the Fig tree is withered up from the roots, goes to the Temple, and has the final teachings to the Pharisees, etc - [Matthew 21:18,23; Mark 11:20,27].

This was the "two days" before the "Passover" - [Matthew 26:1-2; Mark 14:1; Luke 21:37-38, 22:1].

Jesus tells the Jewish nation, that their house is forever left desolate, no more fruit again - [Matthew 23:37-39; Luke 11:32-35].

Jesus said, that He still had to do "cures" and "cast out devils" "to day, tomorrow and the third day" and be done - [Luke 13:32,33]

Jesus had been "daily" in the Temple - [Matthew 25:55; Mark 14:49; Luke 19:47, 22:53; John 18:20]

[the fourth [day] of the week]

    The "tomorrow" [Luke 13:32,33]

[the fifth [day] of the week]

The "Third Day" [Luke 13:32,33], being done.

[the sixth [day] of the week; preparation]

Gather twice as much, Christ Jesus the anti-typical Manna, Exodus 16:25,26 - See - http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2212950&postcount=17 and http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2212951&postcount=18

The "spices" "had been" [Mark 16;1] purchased sometime after the Crucifixion and before burial so that they could "prepare" [Luke 23:56] them to bring on the "first [day] of the week" [Luke 24:1], even as we see Joseph of Arimathaea doing for the linen - [Mark 14:46] See - http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2213241&postcount=20
    http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2213243&postcount=21

    1st Evening Part - [Matthew 26:31,34; Mark 14:27,30]

    See - http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2213239&postcount=19

    Aviv/Nisan 14th; Christ Jesus our Passover is Sacrificed for us - [1 Corinthians 5:7], See - http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2213507&postcount=23 and http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2213509&postcount=24

[the 7th Day Sabbath of the LORD thy God]

Jesus remained in the Tomb all Sabbath - anti-type Manna - Exodus 16:29,30

Aviv/Nisan 15th - Seasonal Feast Sabbath [First Day of Unleavened Bread, without corruption] - [Leviticus 23:5-8]

[the first [day] of the week]

Christ Jesus, preserved and Risen - Anti-type Manna - Exodus 16:32-34

3rd Evening and 3rd Morning Parts, Christ Risen and shown alive - [Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:2; Luke 24:1; John 20:1]

    Aviv/Nisan 16th; Christ the Firstfruits/Wavesheaf Offering, Anti-Type Resurrection - [1 Corinthians 15:20,23].

Jesus was walking with the disciples on the Road to Emmaus on the "first [day] of the week", as the day was closing out, being "the third day since these things" were done [Luke 24:21], See - http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2213502&postcount=22

[the second [day] of the week]

Jesus was still walking with the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus as the first [day] of the week was closing, and it becomes Evening - [Luke 24:29,35, etc]

    etc...

Very little ‘Scripture’ here. And where ‘quoted’ only locations and no contents.

Gets very technical and correspondingly, confused.

    Main objection:
    Incorrect ‘quoting’.

To make a loooong story, short, kindly take the time to consider the following in contrast with your own:

    Please take special note of
    1) the “evening” which begins days;
    2) the ‘passover’ “the first day they KILLED the passover”; and “DAYS” of passover “FEAST”, “the first day“ of “seven days” ulb was eaten.

    Last Week / ‘Holy Week’

    Sabbath
"Six days before passover Feast Days" John 12:1 (… begin on Friday)

    (Palm Sunday)
Five days before "Feast Days" John 12:12 (… begin on Friday)

    (Monday)
Four days before "Feast Days" (… begin on Friday)
    Mark 11:12 Matthew 21:18 Mark 11:15 Luke 19:45-48 Mark 11:19

    Mark 11:20,21,27 Matthew 22:23 Luke 20:1-8 Mark 13:1,3
= Matthew 26:2 "after TWO days (Wednesday Thursday) is Passover
= “Son of Man CRUCIFIED" (… on Thursday)

    (Wednesday)
TWO days before "Feast Days" (… begin on Friday)
    Luke 21:38 Matthew 26:3
= Mark 14:1-3 "after TWO days (Thursday Friday) is Feast
= “Days of UNLEAVENED Bread" (… begin on Friday)

(Thursday—Wednesday night and Thursday day, the Fifth Day)
One day before "Feast Days" (… begin on Friday)
= “BEFORE the Feast” John 13:1
= “PREPARATION of the Passover” John 19:14
= “NOT ON, the Feast” Mark 14:2

It was only as I prepared my latest thread, 'At the Tomb', that I found out about Mark 15:46 where it is said that Joseph <<BOUGHT>> linen.

That is not what the Greek says or means to say.

The Greek is a Participle, Joseph on "unused purchased linen", 'argorasas sundona', "prostrated", 'kathelohn', the body.

Brother, what I see in your 'response', is an apriori leading you throughout, and tainting your conclusion, which I find in your bracketed (parenthetical) notations, but do not find them through the Scriptural chronological record that has been written and left for us.

For instance, you have stated above, that Matthew 26:2, the "after two days" points to (Wednesday, Thursday), and you land upon 'Thursday' [5th [day] of the week] in completion for the Crucifixion/Passover, but this cannot be, due to the very time table and language of the text itself.

The text does not say "within two days", but rather it states "after" two days, which would place the event, not on 'Thursday', but rather on 'Friday', the 'Third day", which comes "after" two days. Notice the Bible:

After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. Hosea 6:2

We can see similar use, in John 4:40,43. The "two days" does not include the day "after" them which we see given in Luke 13:32,33.

So when, Jesus said, on that 'Tuesday' [3rd [day] of the week], that "after" "two days", it would bring us to the 'third day', being 'Friday' [the sixth [day] of the week], in perfect accordance with all typological and prophetic statements gone over.

Therefore, according to Scripture, itself, "after two days" [the "two days" being 'Wednesday', 'Thursday', the "fourth and fifth [days] of the week]], speaks to the "third day" ['Friday', the sixth [day] of the week]], not to the second of the two days.

We can know when Jesus said this saying of "after two days", because He stated it in Matthew 26:2; Mark 14:1, which was on the third [day] of the week, 'Tuesday' [see time table - here http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2216141&postcount=46 ] , for He had just finished speaking to the Pharisees, and had gone out from the Temple, leaving their house "desolate", to the Mount of Olives, as we see foreshadowed in Ezekiel:

And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city. Ezekiel 11:23

Your pattern brother, does not incorporate all the typological elements, namely the Manna in Exodus 16, nor of the 3 days and 3 nights, and therefore, cannot be correct on those grounds, and others.

Error cannot ever sanctify brother, please, give up this incorrect apriori you are holding onto which leads you to such an time-table that does not incorporate all the elements, and that Jesus, in your scenario, had to arise on Sabbath, for this is not possible, especially in that point, for in His resurrection, Jesus went to work, for there was much more for Him to fulfill, even as it is written in Daniel; Hebrews; Revelation, etc.

"... the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;" - John 10:35

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. - John 17:17

And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. - John 17:19

Brother, are you are an expert, or even proficient in Greek to make such an statement [could you demonstrate with your credentials] and alter the King James Bible? [I worry about those who have such an view], but moreso, the very Scripture disagrees with you, in its simple chronological accounting:

And when he knew [it] of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. - Mark 15:45

And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. - Mark 15:46

Mark 15:46 is preceeded by Mark 15:45, which gives us succession of events in their order, and vs 46 begins with "kai" [And], connecting the two.

Therefore, Joseph was given the body, he bought fine linen, and then took the body down, and then wrapped Jesus in that just purchased Linen, etc. Plenty of time in the day to do so, since Jesus had died at approx 3PM, and there was several hours left before sunset and the 7th Day Sabbath was to begin.

The word in Greek in Matthew 15:46, αγορασαςG59 V-AAP-NSM

    Robinson's Morphological Analysis Codes:

    Tense: Aorist
    Voice: Active
    Mood: Participle [a verbal adjective]
    Case: Nominative
    Number: Singular
    Gender: Masculine

It is translated as "buy (28x), redeem (3x)", thus 31 times, in the King James Bible:

    bought, 13

    Mat 13:46, Mat 21:12, Mat 27:7, Mar 11:15, Mar 15:46, Mar 16:1, Luk 14:18-19 (2), Luk 17:28, Luk 19:45, 1Co 6:20, 1Co 7:23, 2Pe 2:1

    buy, 13

    Mat 14:15, Mat 25:9-10 (2), Mar 6:36-37 (2), Luk 9:13, Luk 22:36, Joh 4:8, Joh 6:5, Joh 13:29, 1Co 7:30, Rev 3:18, Rev 13:17

    redeemed, 3

    Rev 5:9, Rev 14:3-4 (2)

    buyeth, 2

    Mat 13:44, Rev 18:11

In every instance it means to purchase.

Thorough and commendable piece of work!

Now I have no credentials. Marshal who translates the Nestle Aland Text, does have though.

And you in fact confirmed Marshall’s rendering with <<<just purchased Linen>>>. In any case, that is how I feel about it. What difference would it make? Joseph bought the linen after Pilate granted him the body; OR he already had the unused purchased linen in stock.

Now 'agorasas' being Aorist Participle, it would rather 'punctuate' a Past Perfect purchase.

There is nothing in text, context or chronology that even vaguely suggests what you suggest, that the body was buried before sunset the same day. That there was <<plenty of time … several hours left before sunset>> is diametrically contrary the written Word: “the Sabbath was nearing BEING-MID-AFTERNOON” --- ‘sabbaton EP(I)-E-PHOHS-K-EN’ when Joseph had finished closing the grave --- exactly the time of day Jesus had died : “the ninth hour” 3.p.m.. Death and Buried could not happen at the same time.

The body was BURIED, AFTER the “evening having (had) come already”. At least three hours after Jesus had died his body STILL HANG on the cross and Joseph only BEGAN his undertaking to obtain the body with the view to prepare it “to the ethics of the Jews to bury” --- which in this case was according to the Law of the Passover of Yahweh “to bury” : “that which remained” : “THE NEXT DAY”. Exodus 12:10.

I must admit I've read only bits and pieces of this thread in depth and glossed over the rest and I am thoroughly impressed with your analytical thought process and application of type/antitype. IMO, you are very gifted brother.

    You are Historicist, correct?

Glory be to God, brother, for it is He which giveth knowledge and wisdom, but thank you for the kindnesses. God's love and my love be to you and yours.

There is ever so much more to share with you and all, in so much that, all I have been given from our Heavenly Father above, is freely yours also. Christ Jesus gave to me freely, and so I give to you and all, freely.

I am indeed Historicist. This, because, that is what the Bible itself is. :)

In fact the Bible has a record of every person/being ever created [and Uncreated/God], in it. It shares from eternity past all the way into eternity future.

The Bible, on earth, itself is a word 'picture' [if I may use that term] of Jesus, while He, Himself, is truly in Heaven.

But our record [our 'picture'] itself is written in Heaven among the Books there, while we are yet on Earth, but soon, and very soon, we shall meet...

If not the same person once again, Kyredneck and OneBaptism is / are head in one cap ('kop in een mus'). No one else could give the latter such applause for such gibberish.

....and if I observed correct, this is not the first time ....

God/'Jesus' was "finished" after the 6th Day of Creation and rested the 7th Day:

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. - Genesis 1:31

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. - Genesis 2:1

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. - Genesis 2:2

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. - Genesis 2:3

Turning to the New Testament Gospels, we find Jesus "finished" with the courtyard ministry on earth, in the same time, the 6th Day, entering into His rest the 7th Day:

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. - John 19:30

Creation [Exodus 20:8-11] & Redemption [Deuteronomy 5:12-15] meet, forever sealed, the Holy 7th Day the Sabbath of the LORD thy God, the sign of His rest from His work, and so much more [soon to be gone into, and what it means for the Everlasting Gospel itself].

Yet, Jesus was not done except for that portion of His work ["an atonement" was made; Leviticus 4], for there was an Heavenly work yet to do [and "the atonement" to be made soon; Leviticus 16 & 23], until He is "finished" once more, and soon, after the real literal days of Genesis 1, as our pattern [2 Peter 3:8], taking each day with the LORD as a thousand years, we see the Ministry of Christ Jesus in the Heavenly Temple and Everlasting Gospel itself, is about to be "finished" in this, the 6,000th year from the beginning, before we, who are faithful, enter into that 7th of rest in Heaven...

But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. - Revelation 10:7

Soon, in this the 6'th 'day' with the LORD, it will be "done":

And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. - Revelation 16:17

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. - Revelation 21:6

See also the Everlasting Gospel in 6,000 years, and the 7th of Rest...:

Then after the 7th 'day' with the LORD in rest, a New Creation begins, The 1st Day... a New Heaven and a New Earth...
