Is this a good idea? Sounds like the beginnings of a mercenary force to me.

Per President Barack Obama’s directive last fall, the U.S. Army is enlisting illegal aliens who are so called “Dreamers” into its ranks.

The Hill reports that since January, the Army has enlisted 81 illegal immigrants who received deportation deferrals under the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Congress is debating whether illegal immigrants should lawfully be allowed into the military. Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., inserted a provision in the 2016 defense budget to encourage the enlistment of qualified illegal immigrants

Evangelicals need to get over their love affair with the military. That love affair works against Christian and Conservative interests.

First of all an Army that is full of homosexuals and transgender perverts is not in good shape. Second the military is having to raise re-enlitment bonuses because no one wnats to stay in under the current admin and possibly the future one. There is no good reason to rummaging for parts to aircraft. We need to have the largest and most powerful military in the world. Without it the world will be unstable.

The US could cut military spending in half, and still have a military twice as large as the next biggest military.

Just curious - what part of the federal budget is for - actual defense? and I am not talking about all the frills?

What frills? We don't need troops in half the countries around the world. We don't need to be fighting wars in the middle east.

Daycare centers for single GI's, individual rooms for lower enlisted, Generous movements of dependents on short tours, and what is the purpose of overseas pay - to name a few.

By the way, Smyth - how much time did you spend on Active Duty?

:D I was wondering how long it would be before that question was asked. Can't hardly wait for the answer.

Since you disagreed with a question , of all things, I'm guessing you think I shouldn't have asked the question.

So maybe you'd like to take a shot at it. The person I asked didn't answer either.

What is your definition of bi-partisan? I'll expand and make it easier.

How many votes does it take from the opposition party for you to call a vote "bi-partisan"?

I can't hardly wait for your "dislike" here, in lieu of an answer. :Geek

Carpro, if I'm remembering the situations correctly in the past, support for and opposition to post conflict draw downs came from both sides of the aisle. By bi-partisan, I mean members of the House and Senate from both parties supported the draw downs. Of course when speaking of the US Congress, there will be opposition.

Good night, there was one vote in the House against the declaration of war on Japan. So, by bi-partisan, I don't mean unanimous. Your Mileage May Vary.

All but one vote for from the opposition, I would certainly call bi-partisan. Only 1 vote for, I would not. My question to you is at what point you would legitimately call a vote bi- partisan.? Your standard. Not the media's or anyone else's.

If there was only one vote for, I'd call that bi-partisan opposition. Again looking at the historic US record, bi-partisan to me means members from both parties agree or disagree on a measure. Said measure is not voted on strict party lines. I don't mean there isn't opposition centered in one party or the other. Just that a measure gets support from both parties.
2/3 votes to overcome presidential vetoes are usually bi-partisan as one party has rarely had a 2/3's majority in both houses.

If you think back, and I am not sure exactly how many years ago it was, the current state of affairs regarding our military is eerily similar to the status of the Russian military forces just before Russia fell apart. I can't help but think that Obama knows this and is pushing us to that same fate in America.

So you are afraid of saying you have never been on active duty?

Salty, only 7.3% of living Americans have been in the military at some point. I don't think you can really fault him if he has not.
After all, neither Clinton or Obama ever served. Obama didn't even know how to pronounce Marine Corps!

No one faults them, but it does make it difficult for them to speak intelligently on military matters and needs.
