I was reading through a friends bible the other day (she's Catholic), and i recognized a few books that weren't in my bible. 7 books to be exact. Why are these books not in my Bible and are in the Catholic bible?

Catholics call those books the Deuterocanon or 2nd canon. Protestants call those books Apocrypha or "hidden" and do not consider them canonical. They are jewish writings that were written before the gospels and mostly after the time Malachi and considered to be Old Testament writings.

It is currently being discussed in this thread in the fundamentalists forum.
I wrote a long post about the history of the apocrypha in this thread.
