Sad. You sign up, do what you are trained to do, then get charged for murder. This is what happens when there is a COC who sends solidiers to build nations and win hearts and minds instead of doing what they have been trained to do, IMO. Sad. The liberal press and John Kerrys will have a heyday.

What if they are actually guilty? I mean, it is the Marine Corp that is charging them, not John Kerry or the "liberal" press.

The initial investigation into alleged murders is because...

    (from the OP article)

Let's see, could it go like this?

Iraqis plant roadside bombs and kill Marines because they hate Americans and American Marines are the enemy to them.
Iraqis then run and hide and shoot at Marines with small arms.
Marines shoot back and kill them.
Survivors then complain to human rights groups and Time (liberal agenda) Magazine that they were raped, murdered, or whatever they want to allege, and thus...

What choice do the Marine Authorities have, but to charge the 8 Marines, who were only doing what they were trained to do and say they followed the rules of engagement......

It's a sad day when the American press and human rights groups are in collusion with the enemy. We never would have won WW2 under these same conditions.

The liberal blogs, like yours, is already having a heyday.

My friends that have been in Iraq say some 95% of the
Iraqi population suport the American (and allies) liberation
of Iraq. The other 5% are Iraqi & international criminals.

IMO, Marines are supposed to be able to tell the difference.

Note that the mistaken Iraqi are dead; the mistaken Marines
won't be sent back to Iraq anymore. It isn't like the end
of the world for the individual Marines.

Wow with 95% support from the Iraqi people we ought to be able to wrap this war on terror up by Christmas. And just think if we could only work that up to another percentage point the Iraqi's will be able to fight the insurgancies on their own.

I believe your friend has a gift of exaggeration. Like Petra-O IX said, if the U.S. invasion had this type of support, the Iraqi's could take control of their country in a matter of days.

When you are in this sort of a war, it's not difficult to cross the line and commit atrocities. (which is why we should not get ourselves caught in such wars unless they are absolutely necessary) What is surprising is not that it happens, but that American troops do it so infrequently.

When it does happen, we have to punish those responsible. Otherwise, we are no different from our enemies.

Yep, if 95% of the Iraqis supported the American and allied troops, we would have had this wrapped up a long time ago.

Indeed, it does seem your friend has a gift of exaggeration. A poll taken for the British showed this, back in October 2005:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/mai...rq23.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/10/23/ixworld.html

Our own troops are saying this:

Your friend sounds like he has imbibed in too much of the Bush Kool-Aid.

John Murtha pronounced them guilty of cold blooded murder a long time ago.

Now, they have at least been charged with "unpremiditated" murder.

The rest of us mortals will actually have to wait for a verdict before we know if they are guilty.

I don't know if they are guilty or not.

I would think that the burden of proof on the prosecution should be much greater than would be required outside of combat. These marines should be given the benefit of the doubt, but if there is overwhelming proof that they did what they are accused of they should pay dearly.
