    STORY

It was time for our daily reminder that many of our public schools are run by idiots.

Do us a favor...if any of you out there have some sense and a functioning brain stem, run for a school board position. You are needed.

    Huh?

    Many *are* run by idiots...

Not all... But more than a few...

    That would make 'em "many"...

    Read the story...

    Yes, they really are idiots!

    Mike Sr.

BTW: I think I can relate. I had a crush on a third grader, Jackie, while at Norfolk Christian Schools...

I was called to the principals office for kissing her on the school bus... (Hey it was mutual!)

Explained they considered this inappropriate behavior... So, we stopped. Remained friends.

She was one cute little red head, too... [IMG]

Hey, did you notice they tried to blame the whole thing on the parents?

From reading the news lately, one gets the impression that the sexual threat in public schools is teachers, not 2nd graders.

Schnurr was quoted as saying the 'emergency removal' was "not a disciplinary action," and then later said, ''The student did something wrong, admitted he did something wrong and received the proper discipline.''

    Huh????

It is sad that the schools can teach sex education in their classes and then when a child does something such as this, the parents are blamed instead of the very ones who are teaching it.

It IS Ohio! LOL I've said it before and I'll say it again...I DON'T LIKE OHIO!

On the other hand...I've lived in that county and I think that common sense will reign in the end. It's a decent place, may not even belong in Ohio...

Think about it from the school authority's point of view though. You know how rampant lawsuits are. What would happen if the girl's parents decided to file a law suit for sexual harassment, and the courts found out that not only did something happen, the school knew about it and did nothing?

In the eyes of the court, it's a lot harder to prove that someone being purposely touched in a personal area is innocent, regardless of the age of the person who did it. You have to understand that the school has to protect itself, and yes, that sometimes has to happen at the expense of a child.

Ain't government run institutions great? [IMG]

    Ohio?

    Ohio!

Anyone remember an appropriate Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song?

Um, are you saying the schools are teaching the children to write love notes and to grab buttocks? 'Cause I seriously doubt that is what they're teaching as sex-ed in the third grade.

It sounds like the girl complained about being ganged up on by three boys and teased. Should that be allowed because they are only 8 years old? At what point should it not be allowed?

No, it shouldn't be allowed. The kid should've been taken to the principal's office and had punishment given (detention, in my day-corporal punishment, stay in for recess, if recess is still allowed in this school district, etc). The parent should be notified, and then it ends.

    But sexual harrasment? Please.

"Zero-tolerance" evaluation of situations has come about because of two issues:

    -Excessive litigation.
-Many school officials who cannot make judgements based on fact.

I stand by my statement earlier...many (nowhere near all) school systems are run by those afflicted with cranial rectitis.

At what age does three guys grabbing a girl's behind become sexual harrassment?

The other example of kids kissing each other is very much not.

But I agree with your idea of appropriate reaction - except for the corporal punishment.

You know what? I agree with you. [IMG]

Assuming that the boys did gang up on the girl and do something inappropriate, there are lots of suitable ways to make them realize it wasn't a good idea.

"Sexual harassment" is probably not what happened, although given what kids are exposed to, today, you never know.

I'm with Daisy, kids know a lot, see a lot, are taught a lot. Whether in school or not. Look, tv, movies, magazine adds, billboards. It all makes it look like play. These boys may not have interpeted it as a sexual thing,or meant it that way, but it is.

    What makes innocent play "sexual"...

    May Have!

I am sure after questiong it became full blown intentional drooling groping!

I ask again, what makes innocent play "sexual"?

Do we assume that just because we "sexually oreinted" adults have been exposed to sexual themes all around us they see them the same way?

Maybe, *IF* the parents are interpreting those things seen that way for them...

    Again, that was "May Have"...

And, the fact that even the parents haven't been fully informed of the charges against their son indicates, to me at least, that it was elevated by juvenile administrators looking for something that wasn't there, yet...

I think of all the music I listened to in my early teen years that was, what I now know, pretty sexually explicit for the times...

    And, I didn't have a clue!

So, we assume an 8 year old is seeing and acting through adult perspectives?

Reminds me of a movie about the eductaion system in America...

Let's convict Charlie Brown for trying to get the attention by note and passing the word that he has a crush on the little red-haired girl. To say she gets his eye is sexual harassment.

Any touching in a sexual way, the behind counts. touch any woman on the behind and it's sexual harressment. So the question isn't when does play become sexual, it when is a female old enough to protect from sexual touches.

Kissing girls in kindergarten is dangerous...

I kissed a girl on the cheek in kindergarten and she slapped me. She got d-hall.

13 yrs later I married her!

She has a dimple on the side of her face, and I tease her... I tell her that the dimple is where I kissed her, and because she liked it so much, she didn't wipe it off, which in time, turned into the dimple!

No, we didn't date in school... she thought I was a nerd!! Can you imagine?

It wasn't until I was a freshman in college I began pursuing her... (my story) she says she chased me!

Been married over 16 yrs... thanks to a kiss in kindergarten!

    tinytim, That's a sweet story.

This girl wasn't complaining about a kiss or the love-notes - she was ganged up on. If it were three girls doing it to a boy, it would be just as bad.

To you it *may* be touching in a sexual way because your perspective is an adult non-naive perspective...

But, what made it "sexual" to the 8 year old... What words or actions is he factually reported to have done that made it "Sexual Play"?

    And,
Where has it been factually reported that she was ganged up on???

Good grief I once saw a vollyball game among teenagers where they were so intense on the game that in spiking the ball a girls top got basically stripped exposing flesh normally covered...

She quickly holstered herself and play continued...

Had this administrator seen it the boys would be in jail!!!!!!!! Everyone of them... Years later...

And, if every crazy thing I've ever done as a youth was reviewd by today's wierd standards I'd probably be in jail too...

Good grief I drove one girl crazy on Guam, Wanda, (To whom I owe a most humble abject apology and devote thanks for being so tolerant of me), who by todays standard could have had this lovestruck puppy arrested for stalking!

I am sorry, I just do NOT have enough information to express outrage at the boys...

And, until the parents are satisfied that the administrator has been truthful and forthcoming...

I'll remain aghast at what the administrator did...

Hey, folks, has anyone else noticed that this article says the girl talks of THREE boys, but only ONE seems to be "under the gun"? This, too, makes me think things were blown out of proportion by adults.
