The churches here have canceled services today, including ours. Some of our members do not have electric. The main roads are plowed and there's some slow moving traffic.

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

    Cheers, and Happy Snow Day,

    Jim

Jim, I've been singing that song for the last two days!

We went ahead and opened our Christmas presents. We figured that since we can't go anywhere we might as well enjoy our things while we're snowed in.

Whew - we just dug out. Over an hour with 5 of us working and a HUGE snowblower (but we have a rather large driveway). The kids are still scraping the bottom of the driveway so that it doesn't freeze overnight and the cars have NO snow on the roof as per the law now. :)

This means tonight is Chinese food! It's our tradition in snow - once we dig out, we get Chinese food. :godisgood:

Ann, do you mean to say that your area has a law concerning snow?

I can picture it now. Thirty motorcars stopped on roadside at dinner time wiping snow off the roof in a snowstorm..........:saint:

An hour to do a driveway? I snowblow a quarter mile laneway in an hour alone!

    Cheers,

    Jim

Yeah - we have to have the roofs of cars cleared off when driving. No just clearing off the windshield and then driving around with chunks of ice falling off the car.

Wow! I hope our local politicians don't get any ideas to do this. I can just see the traffic stopped in the middle of the highway with people desperately trying to clear the snow off the roof of their cars before they pass a cop. . .

Jim - I'd expect in the middle of a snowstorm like we had last night, they'd not worry so much about it but when the snow has stopped, EVERYONE goes ahead and just clears off the windshields then drives around with the snow blowing or, worse yet, ICE flying off the roof to potentially injure the person behind them. I'm so glad they did it but now to see how well they enforce it.

Our driveway took a long time because of the two cars in the driveway and our insistence to get it to blacktop. It's only December so who knows how long the cold will last and I don't like an icy driveway. Once the sun comes out, the bit of snow left on the driveway will melt and then we'll be much more "ice free" than if we just used the snowblower. Our driveway is a semi-circular driveway that totals about an eight of a mile but then we have a LARGE section that goes off of that and heads to our 2 car garage. So there's a bit to clean up. :)

It's "cold" here too. Down to the 50's. Even wore socks to work. We even had a fire in the fire place last night, with the windows open of course so it doesn't get too hot inside.

We still have ice and snow but the main roads are clear. Some of our friends still do not have power and/or telephone services.

The snow is still deep (20 to 25 inches here) but I think most of the roads are okay by now. But the U.S. Gov't closed today, which it does not do often. Some roads were still bad this morning and the Metro (subway) was not running all its lines.

I'm glad we did not lose power.

This was a record snowfall here for December and a record snowfall for all time for National Airport.
