There have been several threads pounding moderators as of late, and my opinion is that it is totally unjustified. There are several reasons. The first is that each of them gives their time and effort for free to keep a check on the posts to stay within the rules. Sometimes I think we forget this is a private endeavor, and it is a priviledge to post, not a right. Secondly, as Christians, we should not have to be monitored. Like the thread about the after church crowd at restaurants being rude, demanding and cheap, there is no excuse for it. It should never happen. I have been guilty of a back and forth insult before, but while not making excuses, with me, it is always because I get too involved in an issue like the character of Mitt Romney. That is quite different from the poster who sets out to cause trouble, troll, and create havoc regardless of the post. When it comes to an issue, I treat moderators the same as anyone else. For example, Lady Eagle and I have been back and forth about Romney several times. However, we also have a common bond of having attending the Constitution Party National Convention. There is an important difference here. I treat her as any other member when discussing an issue, but I have not, and will not attack her or any other moderator's method of controlling the bad posts. I have never done the job, and have no idea what it would be like, or how much time it would take. It sounds like one of those thankless jobs that is liable to get lots of people mad at you. It reminds me of the pew sitters in church that never lift a finger to do a thing, but are quite quick to criticize when the pot luck food is not warm enough or the van is late. I think each of us need to keep our emotions in check with short fuse issues. All of us know them, Calvinism, KJVO, length of time for Creation, closed communion, moderation in drinking, no dancing, etc, etc. Of course, politics is always going to open a can of worms. My problem in being guilty of this is taking a post personally and starting an insult back and forth. I do not set out to troll or create trouble. All of us could work on that. For those who do troll for a living, why not just leave. While some of this is a debate forum, there is also an element of edification. Just the other day, everyone saw the posts with every curse word that man has invented, and then some. That is not necessary. My hat is off to all the moderators, especially those in the political section, and the theology section. Besides Lady Eagle and Romney, I have had debates with DHK over issues in other denominations. And Skandelon, I just like to go back and forth with him for a few posts every now and then because he is fun to jab at. To all the moderators, administrators, and the owners, thank you for all you do, as I have learned lots from this board, and it seems to be a significant part of my life.
