Premise: The average American household's gasoline bill has increased by $130 per month from in the last four years as the price of oil has soared. We pay for oil in dollars, which increases the U.S. trade deficit, which contributes to the weakening of the dollar, which leads to higher oil prices.

This reduces consumer spending, sends dollars overseas to nations that inhibit U.S. foreign policy, and reduces the amount of money available for investment in the U.S.

Increasing domestic production(environmentally safe drilling in Alaska and on the Outer Continental Shelf) can, over a period of years, reduce oil imports, and the demand for oil can be reduced by conservation and higher CAFE standards. These can can serve as a bridge to the next generation of transportation fuels that will come online in the coming decades.

Might work if they would stop exporting American oil as they are now:thumbsup:

    The Energy Non Crisis..

Did you know?that there are hundreds of wells already drilled and capped all over the U.S?
Do you know about GULL ISLAND Alaska? or the "Silk road Caucus"?
the plans to construct a pipline thru Afganistan from the Caspian Sea to the Arabian Sea all proposed by American Oil interests?
Or how many individuals in the "Bush"administration are connected to it?We need no "drilling" just "uncapping" and additional refineries. But plans are going along as intended ,to bring the American middle class to its knees. Don't think me picking on the republicans cause the democrats are in on it too.

Yep, my first Father-in-law was a pumper in Oklahoma. In the field he was working there were pumps that would only run about two hours per week. Many of them were capped. I think it probably costs about $300 per barrel to make a barrel of oil worth $100 (or any price for that matter).

He was also controlling the pumping of salt water into 'sand' beds.

I can't find real fast how many capped oil wells there are in the USofA, I'd expect 300,000 - 400,000. I expect that these capped wells don't have enough oil to supply the USofA's current oil needs for a fortnight.

The increase of [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica]Ethanol to replace some ground oil products is raising the food prices abroad. It is being counted against us in the USofA.

A politician running for public policy making (legslative) on this page:

    http://news.ptcdigital.tv/localpolitics/localpoliticsbio/

    sez:
Duh! we aren't pumping oil from capped oil wells because free enterprise controls the situtaion and those oil wells won't make money until some higher level of oil price.

BTW, oil wells are capped for safety of the surface using people

Go to Washington to see your congress critter. If they have a coat on in the Washington D.C. summer - they are NOT qualified to make energy policy for the USofA.

    Ed,
Do you have a glimmer of an idea what you are saying?
Safety of people living on the surface? "cost too much"? I totaly disagree..........
It just happens that I am involved in the industry TODAY this is how I make my living, started in the 70's working on the pipeline and am now in transportation.
the money is there......they are using mid east oil because it makes more MONEY for them"the LOVE of MONEY is the ROOT of ALL EVIL." make no mistake, they could but will not pump, refine or sell oil from this nation unless and until they are unable to get oil from FOREIGN countries.....they want the american people to spend their hard earned MONEY on GAS!
As for ethanol,it is exactly like a drug dealer "cutting " his coke or other drugs less energy more MONEY....oh BTW food costs increase as well "double Bonus".

It was suggested having more oil around here would help the situation and I said it might work if they would stop exporting American oil as they are now. Stop exporting means more oil as your suggestions wanted.

I think ya'll need to recheck your sources. The latest data(1/08) shows that companies exported a miniscule 12,000 bpd of U.S. crude oil to Canada - that's all.

Complain to the network news that reported it awhile back.

Don't see that what you said changes what I suggested anyway. That would be 12,000 per day less they'd have to find elsewhere even if it is a drop in your bucket.

So do you regard the Department of Energy to be involved in hyping oil companies' bottom lines or do you regard the Department of Energy as part of the controlled media, or both?

Since I have worked for an oil company for almost 30 years, yes, I know how many gallons are in 12,000 barrels. It is miniscule compared to around the 20,000,000 barrels, or 840,000,000 gallons, that are processed in this country each day.

As I said earlier,I started on the pipeline, and had the President of CAP CON Intl offer to "get me out" of the miltary in the 70's so I could continue to work for him.
Let me assure you that these people weild ALOT of power.
Check out the silk road caucus,Sam Brownback was a co-founder,and see who, what ,where ,when ,and why they are doing what they are .
You might find that the reason to be in Iraq just may be to construct a pipeline from the Caspian to Arabian sea,so they can supply good cheap energy to ASIA(redistribute the worlds money and equalize living conditions so Global Goverment will be accepted by all).
