Good discussion going on over at the Pastors Qualifications thread.

Keep in mind - the choices that say - "after being a pastor" Yes, during the sin, he should not pastor - but after a time of repentance and renewal, would he be able to resume such a role? Key phrase in the poll question "ever being a pastor"

THIS POLL ALLOWS YOU TO MAKE MULTIPILE CHOICES. Click all of them if you think they apply.

If he's been a pastor and then left his wife and took another woman? No pastorship for them...

There is a denomination that makes this really easy, if you had premarital sex, even if you were unsaved, you can't even be a member of the church. Forget about being a pastor, the most you can ever serve in the church is to attend.

We started attending a Mennonite church and they told us we could freely come and worship with them, but that we couldn't be members because we both had premarital sex.

    Salty,

    1. being a racist
    2. being a dictator
    3. being a cheat
    4. being a liar
    5. hating anyone not like him
    6. doing anything that would disqualify a person from being a member of the church.

There are more I am sure.

True - but there were only 10 options available for the poll - and I wanted to have all three (Before, after, pastor) - and as you can see in the poll results so far - there are differences for those three categories.

(Crabby, please send me an email)

    Fully aware of the qualifications!
In fact pastor in our SBC local association could not be appointed as he did not meet the qualification of the IMB.

Interesting - one person said that no pastor if divorced before salvation - but if that same man produced a child out of wedlock - that would be okay.
Who thinks having a child out of wedlock = marriage?

I said it before on another thread and will repeat it here. Whatever happens before Salvation should have no bearing on the Christian's service.

I feel the same way about marriage. Whatever either spouse may have done prior to marriage should not affect the marriage relation. A Christian should not marry someone who is divorced for reasons other than adultery. However, if they should marry then the same standard should apply. Whatever happened before the marriage should not affect the marriage relationship.

You folks still take visiting families home for dinner. Dad always brought as many as he could. Don't know how Mom cooked for as many as she did. Don't know where we got the food, times were hard!

When I was a boy I loved to sit and here the Old Regulars discuss Scripture. That was real Sunday School.

Most ORB churches have lunch rooms now. Those that dont, usually go their separate ways. But I do remember them having 2-3 houses ready to feed them after church.

I was at a church that called a pastor without checking out his past thoroughly. Sometime after he became the pastor of the church it was found out that he had a child out of wedlock to a woman he had never married. Many in the church knew he had a checkered past (into some drugs) before he was saved, but never knew of this.

The now-teenage son was in the custody of the woman. He didn't have a good reputation, wasn't saved, and did whatever he wanted to--including showing up unannounced at the church building after the service to see "his Dad." He stuck around for awhile, smoked his cigarettes on the church property and did whatever he pleased. It wasn't a good testimony for the church, nor was it a good testimony for the pastor to have this kind of person "representing the church to others," by his presence there and by being associated with the pastor.
IMO, it would have disqualified him, had the church looked more closely into the past of the pastor.
