How does this happen? how does a 3 time offender infiltrate into the inner sanctum of a church? Do you think the Pastors vetted this scumbag or did they just allow him free rein?

I am sickened by it all. I assure you also this story is only the tip of the iceberg....there will be more discoveries as they go through this sorted tragedy. The lives this guy has ruined & the damage to the victims

This morning, I am turned off by church. could they not have done a background check or at least have looked up the guy on the sex offender register?

We had a young kid, youth pastor or youth Bible teacher around here get put in jail recently. He had been setting up via text to meet a 14 yr. old from his class for (you know what). He is 21. The mom caught wind of the texts and alerted police, so they met him at the parking lot, not the girl. He admitted to a couple of other illegal encounters.

This kid was working in the church where he developed into a pedophile. Hopefully no one has to worry about him ever again.

Churches need to have policies such as (perhaps) not allowing youth and youth workers to be texting one another or they will be dismissed. Facebook and other social media are also a source for inviting trouble, one reason we aren't on it, there is no need to give any wolves 24 hour access to our household.

The youth themselves need to be made wise to the goings on, and be taught that it is inappropriate for an adult to engage them in conversations such as these (such as compliments on looks &). The thing is, so many people in church today are so easily offended, and looking to be offended that they cannot be taught about realities without getting their feathers ruffled over it.

I can't have a bad feeling for 'the church' over this. The camp involved with the story you've provided is clearly at fault, and I'm sure there were several churches involved in running it. We had a camp south of us have the same situation happen, a male m*l*esting kids. It's ridiculous and shameful, and the camps involved in these things are plain incompetent. Pedos prey on opportunities where children will be at their disposal, camps and churches afford them this opportunity, as well as the organization not doing background checks. I'd be leary of ANY adult coming into church wanting to teach kids.

Anyhow someone told a guy this when he complained about his church he attended and quit going to church altogether: "When you get bad gas at a gas station, what do you do, quit buying gas altogether? No, you go to a different gas station." In other words it's a lame excuse to quit going and blame 'the church.'

The church and camp ran right through every stop sign that most every other church puts up to stop this from happening. Yes, they should have done background checks on everyone working working in the church, including those working with adults.

Most Churches do these days. I know that when I went to the Baptist Church (Country and Town) I use to attend anyone who worked with kids had to get clearance which included a background check. However, we had over 500 members so maybe a smaller church cannot afford such things? I don't know.

Our church has training courses to cover appropiate and inappriate actions. Training is required by the insurance company and is churhc policy. My adult son and daughter have gone through the training.

I read your post then clicked on the link - and all I had to see was "Youth camp worker charged" and knew that it was bad.

NO one in our church works with children - or volunteers for anything - without having a full background check. We have a number of policemen who take care of that. Additionally, no child is to be alone with an adult. There must be 2.

However, as the parent of an 11 year old boy, there is no way on God's green earth that I would let him sleep over someone's house who does not have his best friend there - and who I have not vetted out myself. Sleeping over a youth worker's house? In your dreams.

How could the church know he was a child molester before he was arrested?

It appears from the story that this is his first arrest, so what good would a background check show.

I say this all the time. Poeple are afraid of the criminals that have been caught. I am more afraid of the criminals that have'nt been caught.I used to think that background checks were mostly paranoia. But I am to the point now that I support them.

We have three registered child molesters in our church. It has been at least ten years since the last one got arrested and they "appear" to be doing good. All of them help with church projects such as maintenance and repairs. But none of them are allowed to work with kids.

Its not so much that we dont trust them, its more that we dont want to tempt them. So for the protection of both the kids and the sex offenders we dont mix the two.

Let me also add that everyone in the church knows because they have all testified in church about it. And everyone supports them being here and encourages them to continue in the Lord's path.

My pastor explains it like this. We forgive them for what they have done, but even after forgiveness there are still consequences for the things we do. As we all are.

John....this guy had 2 prior convictions for molestation & was out on parole. The negligence by this church has children who can no longer function as human beings..... this has led to tragic consequences for those boys.

After seeing this, Im done with church. There is such bitterness in me that I can hardly contain myself. This must be Gods way of eliminating a bad church from carrying on....that is the one blessing. With the lawsuits, the press being all over it, a grand jury inquisition, this should close the place up good & proper. THANK GOD!

The story says nothing about prior convictions or parole.

    Am I missing something?

What is all this condemnation about a pedophile? What makes this sin anymore heinous or carry any greater penalty than any other sin according to so many I listen to on this list? We have preachers and or missionaries on this list daily that testify to sinning daily. What is more heinous about being a pedophile, then whatever sins these preachers are guilty of? Surely we would not want to go down the path of cardinal sins versus venial sins would we?

If in fact this man was ever born again, and chances are being in a church he well may have been, what difference in eternity does it make? If preachers can commit sin without incurring eternal punishment for their daily sins, who on the list will be the first one to cast a stone at this pedophile? Upon what grounds do you find these acts heinous? Why should this sin be any more heinous than any other sin if to commit one sin is to be guilty of all sin, and more than one preacher on this list openly admits to sinning everyday, some in thought, word, and deed? If the preachers can sin with impunity as far as any eternal judgment goes, why worry about a pedophile? Again, upon what basis do you find this individual guilty of anything more heinous than any other sin committed daily by the preachers evidently in good standing on this list?

Why is it more heinous? Because it attacks our children and scars them for life. I'd feel safer with my child sitting in a room with an alcoholic or an adulterer than a pedophile. Sorry but fact of life. Touch my child and you die. Want to cheat on your wife? It's a sin but you will not harm my child.

Oh come on Ann. Why if a Christian can be a homosexual etc and be a believer, why not a pedophile? Are you without sin? How can one judge a pedophile any different than any other preacher/laymen committed sin on a daily basis no less?

How about you Gb? How is your integrity running? Do you testify to sinning everyday? If so, and if it is true as DHK has claimed that if one does not testify to having sin in their lives they are a heretic, I am curious as to what you and others might have to say for your testimonies.

Here was the quote of DHK:

A pedophile can absolutely be a believer - one who needs to work on their sin - but there is no way that I would allow him near my children. I also would not sit an alcoholic in a bar or a thief next to a stack of iPhones. It's just common sense.

Hey preacher4truth, why is this wolf any worse than a preacher that sins everyday? By what standard are you going to judge him than say yourself, sinning every day in thought word and deed? That was your testimony was it not? What makes this mans sins so heinous in God's eyes, and the ones you testify daily to as being less offensive to God?

HP: If God accepts him as he is, why are you so afraid of one that you say God accepts? Who knows, you or your children may be rooming with him for eternity if you are correct in your thinking.

Ann, if God has declared such a one as clean, who are you not to accept such a one with open arms, showing and treating your brother nothing but Christian love?
