last nite I heard Scott Wesley Brown's When Answers Aren't Enough, There Is Jesus for the first time in ages. While I agree with the message of the song, the music sounds a bit depressing. For some strange reason listening to that song is like listening to secular classics such as Seasons in the Sun , All by Myself , and Don't Cry Out Loud [IMG]

Is the song in a minor key ?

I know some pretty somber hymns, sung in minor keys, that evoke some pretty strong emoions.

But I am not familiar with the song you mention.

Both Scott Wesley Brown's song, When answers aren't enough and the Don't cry out loud make me weep at times.

Sometimes they hit the pit of my emotions.

The other two are just some very singable songs.

What point are you trying to make? I don't exactly equate "Precious Memories" or "Beulah Land" with "12th Street Rag."

I don't know if they're "sad", necessarily, but some of Randy Stonehill's songs can be very dark, such as "Starlings" and "Lonely House".

I do not think he does either. I think he just thinks the song is sad. I have to agree...its sad!

    Gosh Jimmy! You said:
That song lifted me UP during a very sad time in my life and gave me a great perspective on my troubles! I still love it today!

    Listen to it here.

I agree, Diane. Such a wonderful song. I think even though the troubles mentioned and the key structure is "sad", there is hope offered. That hope is Jesus, and you don't get much better than that!

Makes me want to jump up and down and sing Victory in Jesus!

Not all tears mean you're sad. I've cried looking at awesome nature scenes. To be sobered, somber, overwhelmed with emotion to the point of tears is something most everyone doesn't realize is not always equal to sadness. Then again, you know yourself best. If you think you're sad you probably are. LOL I really do think a lot of people have a hard time telling the difference though. We're not raised in a culture that sees soberness or tears as related to anything but bad things most of the time.

First off let me say that the song is not in a minor key and I'm quite sure that the reason it causes you such emotion is that somewhere on the basic level you have a pain that this song touches.

I have recently also begun to find some songs to bring me to tears that really are ones of great triumph and joy, but they bring me to the basal emotion of tears.

Here's the latest one that causes me to weep.

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say

    CHORUS
    Word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
    Washing my eyes to see
    Your majesty
    To be still and know
    That You're in this place
Please let me stay and rest
    In Your holiness
    Word of God speak

I'm finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear Your voice

    CHORUS
    Word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
    Washing my eyes to see
    Your majesty
    To be still and know
    That You're in this place
Please let me stay and rest
    In Your holiness
    Word of God speak

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's okay

Multimom, thanks! I kept hearing bits and pieces of that song and forgetting who sang it, I wanted to buy it so I could hear the whole thing. The lyrics really caught me, but somehow I'd always turn it on right in the middle!
