Burleson is a discredited liberal who makes false claims of being conservative. In recent days he is on a daily rant about women Pastors. He has really become obsessed with it.

Burleson is the pastor of the largest Southern Baptist church in his area. Liberal? Oh, yeah, although he'll deny it. He's also Calvinistic in his teachings. Couple those two together, and you'll understand why he has so many people who attend his church, but feel no need to live it the rest of the week.

When you focus on condemning certain acts (such as not authorizing women pastors), instead of condemning sin, then why wouldn't you have a large congregation? No one believes they're doing anything wrong.

I was there for several years. I've interacted with many of his congregation. I speak from experience.

I resent that. Are you saying that being Calvinistic plus being liberal equals unholy living ?
You're lumping every Calvinist on this board and Calvinists of the past and present in other churches who mind how they live together with these people you are condemning (as if you have the right to condemn anyone).
And I suppose because you feel you mind how you live and you're not Calvinist, you're sure to be going to heaven one day soon ?

Ah yes, the ole "I don't like you so instead of intellectually engaging I'm going to sling insults and labels" also know in logic as the ad homenim. Really goes to show your inability to do heavy lifting intellectually.

Ironically this is the exact kind of reply we get from so many of the founders of the SBC Resurrgence...the easiest way to do away with a critic or silence a thinker is to accuse them a liberal be gone with them. The sad part is that most "liberals" that have accused thusly actually aren't liberals at all. Rather they are moderate conservatives. Something tells me you actually wouldn't know a true liberal if they came up and smacked you in the face.

It is an interesting point he makes. At one point in my seminary days I had interviewed with some marketplace ministries, corporate chaplaincy, positions. During one of my discussions with a guy (who wasn't a staunch SBCer) he mentioned that one of the great issues in the SBC that no one wants to talk about is the role of female chaplains. These chaplains (which there are many) are involved in many differing areas of service (and do a fine job btw) throughout differing sectors.

Now let me get my cards out so we don't get all accusatory...I have no problem with women chaplains. I have no problem with women preachers. I do, however, believe the offices of pastor and deacon are reserved for male leadership.

Some of the female chaplains I know are terrific representatives for Christ where they serve. They often do a tremendous job of connecting with those who otherwise might not pay attention to a male. Thanks for the article! :D

You're absolutely correct. Over-generalization on my part. My apologies.

Let us not forget the women mentioned in the New Testament that taught others. However, like you, I believe those offices are reserved for males.

Moderates are liberals. No such thing as a moderate conservative. That would be an oxymoron. As far as thinkers Burleson seems to lack and real thought. He just regurgitates the same thought on a daily basis. And as far as adhominem goes Burleson has engaged in that quite regularly. Usually in reference to Dr. Patterson or the other trustees. Of which he is no longer a part of.

So anyone who believes a bit differently than you do is a liberal. Good to know. I happen to be an innerantist myself, but believe the whole Bible - even when it talks about Phoebe being a deacon, Junia being an apostle, Phillips daughters preaching (and it doesnt say they only preached to women btw), etc etc etc.

burleson is a conservative, he is just not mean about it - at least not anymore. He was the one who put his 95 thesis against the CBF on the door of the oklahoma CBF meeting a few years back

I would consider myself a moderate conservative... that doesn't make me a liberal...
But since I am ABC/USA, I don't really care what the SBC is doing...

Liberals trying to redefine conservatism. Burleson is not conservative. And as far as being "mean" you should try reading his blog. He has been less than kind.

    Rev

I go to his site. there are some sites that tend to the mean side - his is not one of them. Now some things get said in the comment section - but not much different than goes on here. You may not agree with him, but he lets all comers post comments.

I will say it again - he is not a liberal. He does encourage you to think.

A good friend of mine who is a chaplain in the U.S. Navy told me that since the SBC stopped ordaining female chaplains they just get a non-Baptist female chaplain to deal with the females in the military. That takes care of the problem.

How dumb can the SBC leaders get to even think that it is wise for a male chaplain to deal with women in the military. That would be a perfect setup to promote and encourage the potential for immorality.

    So has the court.

    Q. According to Patterson's rigid and narrow interpretation of the Bible, it is wrong for a woman to serve in any position of authority over a man; is that an accurate statement?

    A. In the church, yes.

    Q. How about anywhere else?

    A. Well I don't take a position about anything else, because the Bible is not crystal clear on it. The Bible does say in the Book of Isaiah, that it is something of an indication of a wicked society when women rule over them.

Because of the offense of the opprobrious epithet "liberal," today they call themselves "moderates. But a A skunk by any other name still stinks! Dr. W. A. Criswell

Burleson has spent quite a bit of time defending the professors who were dismissed from our Seminaries in the past because they taught that not all the bible is true. He proclaimed they were not liberals either and such removals were an injustice. He always claims to be an inerrantist and then always adds a "but" to it. Recently he said his church would not suppport a woman pastor because of the BF&M as it stands today.

When it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, looks like a duck it most likely is a duck.

I do not read the comments on any blog. But his posts are less than kind on a regular basis. In fact it is the very reason he is no longer a trustee. The evidence is right there on his blog.

As far as making you think well you might want to find another source for that. He has misrepresented the Klouda situation on a regular basis.
