    Hi,

It came to my mind with that little girl, 9, raped by her stepfather in Brazil, who was, with her mum, excommunicated for having aborted.

Honestly, i don't support abortion, but there are cases where i'm not clear of what should be done.

In the case of that little girl, the first thing that comes to my mind is " no abortion ", but i can't prevent myself for thinking " Who am i to tell what should be done in such terrible cases ? She might suffer all her life for that, get mad, the kid might be disformed, she might die. Who am i to tell a 9 years old girl she should keep a baby " ... Honestly, the risk is too big, and a 9 years old pregnant is a nonsense.

    What do you think ?

I don't like to weigh in on abortion threads because of the passions involved. I don't like abortion, but I don't believe that people who vote democrat have blood on their hands. I would like to see abortion returned to the state level, because no administration will ever out and out prohibit all of them.

That being said, I believe life begins at conception, and abortion kills that life. Life at it's most innocent. I do not support the taking of an innocent life under any circumstance.

    I totally agree.

As far as the hard cases are concerned, I find this article to be quite informative:

Thanks, that was an interesting article, which could be extended to other things, in terms of the " intention " concept i read inside.

That brasilian affair came to my mind while reading many of the abortion subjects here (France allows abortion under conditions since Veil law in 1975, and i never heard any of the existing parties claiming to withdraw it (the Death penalty law is sometimes put in question the extreme right party).
It seems that the subject comes quite often on the scene in USA ?

To come back to that brasilian affair, i " think " God never wanted children to have babies, more from their own family (i guess that's why consanguinity exists, and is an important risk).

    Thou shalt not kill.

It does not say, "Thou shalt not kill, unless you are young."

It does not say, "Thou shalt not kill, unless you are raped."

It does not say, "Thou shalt not kill, unless it would be an inconvenience."

    Thou shalt not kill. (period)

Agreed...murder is murder. Now if the decision came down to saving the mother or saving the child, saving one is not murdering the other one.

I know, it just troubles me :s ... i'm stuck on the consequences of " letting things go " after such a trauma, for the little girl, and the baby ...

Dr John R. Rice said it best in his book ( I forget the title of the book) but he said ( or least pertty close to) "Why would you punish a child for the sin of his father"?

    ??? Is a baby "punishment"????

Abortion is not a "neutral" precedure for the mother (that is not causing harm to the mother) It can cause many problems including death.

The 9 year old has had a terrible ordeal. Having an abortion will not change that. Having an abortion could kill her or cause her to never be able to conceive again.

    peace to you:praying:

I know canadyjd, it won't change many things, but i always wonder how one will oblige or convince a 9 years old to keep her baby, i fear the girl gets mad, or lives a sad life, her baby always reminding her what happened, and i guess birth of a baby might be terrifying ... finally, the baby might come, but the little mum might pay a very, very heavy price, no price a kid should have to pay, no burden we might be sure to get from her ... in fact, to be honest, i think keeping the baby might do all things worse too, psychologic trauma (honestly, there's enough to get mad no ?).

I agree with the " no-abortion " but hadn't thought of such cases, didn't even imagine such a young child could become pregnant.

I found some good info on christiananswers too.

    Thanks for your replies !

It also does not say, "Thou shalt not kill, unless you're fighting in a war," nopr does it say "Thou shalt not kill unless it's man's sentence for a crime."

You are wrong. The verse in Exodus forbids killing without cause, or murder. Ecclesiastes tells us there is a time to kill. A look at a Strong's concordance will tell you the difference in the original Hebrew words used. And the second part of your post is absolutely wrong. Scripture DOES prescribe the death penalty.

When you use the Bible only to beat others up, the Holy Spirit will close it to you. Take my word for that. And remember the warning you gave in another thread concerning the changing of scripture. You should heed your own advice.

The commandment also reads, "Thou shalt do no murder..." The word kill is not there.

On abortion. We already accept certain aspects of abortion. Where the mother's life is involved. We allow such abortions to save the mother. Sure we attach a different name for it, but it is still an abortion. Some claim it is ok in the case of a rape. A miscarriage is a form of natural abortion; we accept that.

I am not supporting abortion outright, but I'll stick to my motto: "Abortion if necessary, but not necessarily abortion."

What we fail to address in modern society is the immoral act that brings about the infant. Even Christian girls have children out of wedlock and abortions too!

I also think where these unwanted infants will live out there lives. Generally a background of sin and immorality and duplication of faults. We need a much greater effort in our teaching before we condemn outright. I know that some are working in this area, but it is not a drop in the bucket.

In Canada, we went from selective abortions approved by three doctors in a local hospital to outright free abortions by "abortion clinics". We need more Christian involvement. Not condemnatory lecturing, but genuine help and guidance.

Someone mention killing in war. I fear we are forced to kill in the defence of our freedom. Every soldier I know who has killed another man in battle feels that to the core of his existence. I saw men who were killed because they couldn't squeeze the trigger in their own defence. If some are so opposed to this killing, why do you continue to support the "right to bear arms"? Why do so many in this free world keep weapons at home? Guns were designed to kill. There is no other purpose for a gun.

There is so much violence in the Bible, this commandment is one of the most difficult verses to fully understand.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Thanks be to God there will be no guns in Heaven - and no abortions - no violence of any kind.

The girl has already been traumatized and by giving her an abortion, it will further traumatize her. Instead, it is so much better to watch her carefully, deliver the baby as soon as it is big enough to survive and put the baby up for adoption. No matter what, it is completely devastating for the young mother - but there's no need to add further sin to the situation.
