I have been debating by email with a guy in his 20s that is a practicing homosexaul and in the Chrisitin music industry. I would love to speak on this issue but I have not been granted access to the mens private forum to do so. Could an administrator help me here? Anyway our discussions have basically been about abosolute truth; if it exist or not.

Im curious about those on this forum. Does absolute truth exist? If you say "no" then how can you argue with anyone on any issue?

I find it amusing that there needs to be a qualifier on truth.

    1 + 1 = 2

    a) True

    b) False

    c) Absolutely True

I never had that option on a test when I was in school!

Send a BB PM to one of the two Admins listed as the moderators of the men's private forum requesting access. It is fairly simple. Just go to the main BB page where all the various fora are listed. Then click on one or both of the names listed as the moderators from the men's private. This should pull up their profile(s) and you will see a link to send them a PM.

I'm glad an American asked that; I don't understand it either, but at first I thought it must be one of those "Americans Only" jokes. Could it possibly have something to do with senators in the Roman Empire rather than the USA?

It's not only an old joke, it's the best logical argument against the idea that there are no absolutes. Since the person who says there are no absolutes cannot say for sure that he is right according to his view, he must then allow for the possibility of absolutes. So then we can say, it is impossible to say that there are no absolutes. And that statement logically becomes an absolute, defeating the original proposition that there are no absolutes.

    Everyone follow that? :type:

What Bible Boy and David Lamb asked about and what they don't understand is why Bible Boy was asked if "he was a Senator?" by Brother Bob.

    I don't get it, either.

Me too. I didn't pick up on the humor. Perhaps it's for the elite.(I'm elect, not elite:)

Of course there are absolutes. I think the problem is that there are so many of them and they all contradict each other. Maybe you could work on telling him why what you believe to be absolute is worthy of being believed to be absolute. If that makes sense.

I have to brush my teeth before class. I just wanted to say, true absolutes ( sorry for the redundancy)do not contradict one another. It's impossible. God is a God of order. Anything of an absolute nature that seems to contradict another one is a 'seeming contradiction' -- not a real one. The absolutes in the Bible ( for they are the important ones) do not contradict each other at all.

The possible joke I was asking about was the one in Post 9, "Is he a senator????????" Several people have asked about it, and like me, are still none the wiser.
