    ACLU....

NEW YORK (AP) - The U.S. military is holding about 500 juveniles suspected of being "unlawful enemy combatants" in detention centers in Iraq.

A total of 2,500 youths under the age of 18 have been detained for periods of up to a year or more since President Bush's anti-terrorism campaign began in 2002. Almost all those who have been detained are in Iraq. About 10 are currently being held in Afghanistan.

The ACLU and other civil liberties groups have denounced the practice as abhorrent. And they say it's in violation of U.S. treaty obligations.

    Reality....

BAGHDAD (AFP) — An increasing number of Iraqi detainees are refusing to leave detention centres despite being eligible for release because they want to complete studies begun behind bars, a US general said on Sunday.

"In the last three or four months we have begun seeing detainees asking to stay in detention, usually to complete their studies," Major General Douglas Stone told a news conference in Baghdad.

The US military offers a wide range of educational programmes to the 23,000 or so detainees -- adults and juveniles -- being held at its two detention facilities, Camp Cropper near Baghdad's international airport and Camp Bucca near the southern port city of Basra.

Some parents of juvenile detainees, too, have asked that their children remain behind bars so they can continue their schooling, said Stone, the commanding general for US detainee operations in Iraq.

Yessirree, all those prisoners just love being held in prison! Darn ole ACLU is just buttin' in, trying to insure they are treated humanely, while those prisoners just want to go to school after their walk on a dog leash.

Prehaps they want an education they can't get at home.
Who says dog leash, got proof of that accusation?

That was something that happened in one prison several years ago, and the people involved have been punished. The request was for evidence that such things are going on NOW in the detention centers where the juvenilles are getting an education.
Try answering the question that was actually asked instead of turning the situation into yet another opportunity for Bush-bashing.

It was so easy to knock that one out of the park, I just stood back and waited for someone else to do it. You did a good job.

Anyone else notice that the aclu spends more time lately defending non-citizens that want to destroy America than on free speech issues?

Have they just gotten tired of the charade they been propagating for decades?

Are they finally " coming out" as the anti -American organization they really are? Are they tired of using the backdoor approach to destroy America by destroying America's institutions? :tonofbricks:

Now they want to kick down the front door by openly defending America's enemies.

Nope. Obviously you didn't bother to read the articles in the Google link. It happened at least at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib. It helps to actually read the articles. Not all of the perpetrators were punished either.

And where did I ever mention Bush? You did that.

You may have "knocked it out of the park" but the ball went foul.

They work on a lot of nutty stuff but that is more about aquiring fees form the government than anything else. In other words such cases are purely a money source win or lose.

    Yes.

They use our own legal system to aid them in destroying the country that gave them that system.

While the ACLU has taken some unusual cases, overall they do much good and I am glad they are there. I suspect they do much more good than most churches in this country, sad to say.

Which has zero to do with my words you quoted.

Maybe it would apply to the critics of the ACLU, since they have defended the religious rights of many Christians.

Sounds to me like he had just the right verse.

All of the links that you have provided are secondary sources with stated agendas that place them in opposition to the ACLU by definition. I looked at all of these sites, and, so far as I can see, only Diane Dew encourages her readers to look at the ACLU web site. If you want to use articles from the ACLU site to support your positions, then that could be valid criticism. What you have provided here is not.
