Pastor Larry, if you read others posts to me, the are blasting me because I thank God for giving my sister wisdom to see that those drugs are not were not needed in my niece's life. I am sure God would tell many others the same thing. He doesn't want people's minds clouded with alcohol, but drugs to alter the mind are ok.

But hey, I concede. To each his own.

I will not post on this thread again.

My aunt has terminal cancer--stage 4 metasticized bone cancer.

For her excruciating pain, she receives a narcotic pain reliever.

    It is mind-altering.

Now...I await your reply as to how she is sinning.

Medication is medication, and without you being a doctor, and being the primary care giver of any particular child, you would have no idea what they need and don't need in the way of medications. You want to pretend there is no child who needs medications for add or adhd, yet you wouldn't know would you, and you would ahve a child in need denied medications to boost your own ego.

You can also say the diagnosis was not around always. That doesn't mean the condition didn't exist. We can't account for all people through time. Many were placed in mental institutions and other places that removed them from main society. Remember the man whose son was a lunatic? Yes Jesus healed him but there were others who were not healed by Christ. And prior to him being healed, if his parents knew of a drug, you can beat that child would have been on it.

Lest we forget, out of all the people at the pool of Bethesda, Jesus healed one.

All's I can say SFIC, you are welcome to come by and watch TV with me. All I ask is you let me have the remote.

While I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, I thought I would add a short story:

Some years ago, I was teaching 3rd & 4th Grade Sunday School. One boy in the class, Matt, had been diagnosed with ADD and was taking Ritalin six days a week. On the doctor's advice, he did not take it on Sunday! He was a VERRRY difficult student in Sunday School. (His parents, BTW, were becoming frazzled because their disciplinary actions did not seem to help).

One day, soon after Matt accepted Jesus as his Savior, he asked to talk with me after class. He asked if I thought Jesus would help him overcome his ADD. I answered I most certainly DO believe Jesus would help. We agreed to pray daily for each other about this.

Within a month, the other kids in the class were commenting about how much nicer Matt was in class! The last time I saw Matt was when his dad got orders to another Air Force base about a year later -- and Matt was totally off Ritalin!

Is ADD/ADHD real? YES! Is medicine the best way to treat it? I do NOT think so. Jesus is!

I am not a doctor, so do not take my testimony as medical advice. However, please DO pray for everyone you know who has been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. You will probably see a drastic change!

Why is it, when we're talking about various illnesses, that we accept the ones that can be seen and reject the others? Just imagine if what was going on on the inside of the human brain showed on the outside. I could picture Brother Loosebolt standing up at the mid-week prayer service with what looked like broken lightning bolts sticking out of his forehead.

"Pray for me, Brothers!", he yelled.

"Why Brother Loosebolt," says Deacon Uptight, "it seems you have broken electrical impulses sticking out all over your head."

With a hearty "Amen" someone drags the dust-covered bottle of anointing oil out from behind the pulpit and folks gather around Brother Loosebolt; anointing him and praying for a complete healing from his affliction of protruding, broken, lightning bolts- just like we pray for cancer, kidney stones and broken bones.

Pity the folks who stand up and say things like:

    "My heart's broke..."
"My mind's racing 100 mph and I can't seem to get it slowed down."
    "I am depressed beyond explanation."
"I would like prayer for..... Anyone want to ride a bike?"

You can't show anyone an x-ray or a lab result for those things so we dismiss them with trite phrases like, "You just need more faith." or "You need to pray harder, read your Bible more, get rid of unconfessed sin...."

I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well.
    Psalms 139:14 NAS77

There just might be parts of our bodies we do not fully understand.

I hope you apply this logic to other sicknesses, but I bet you don't..

    It would be like:

Is Cancer real? YES! Is medicine the best way to treat it? I do NOT think so. Jesus is!
Is Diabetes real? YES! Is medicine the best way to treat it? I do NOT think so. Jesus is!
Is black lung real? YES! Is medicine the best way to treat it? I do NOT think so. Jesus is!
Is Heart disease real? YES! Is medicine the best way to treat it? I do NOT think so. Jesus is!

Why is it that people don't understand the brain is an organ just like the heart, lungs, or other organs?
And when the brain is sick, it needs medicine, just like the other organs.

Depression, Anxiety, ADD/ADHD, epilepsy are all diseases that are associated with the brain.

Having faith in Jesus does not exclude the use of medicine.
Jesus has chosen many ways to heal people. Medicine is one avenue.

Sooooo.......what were we talking about? [IMG]

Oh yeah. Medicine is definitely a gift from God. Think of all the lives that have been saved by the use of antibiotics alone.

New high-resolution, three-dimensional maps of the brains of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) indicate significant and specific anatomical differences within areas of the brain thought to control attentional and inhibitory control systems, compared with brain scans of children without ADHD.

    It's a REAL disorder.

I have ADHD. If I skip exercising, then I start changing personalities somewhat. Being less controlled, more likely to engage in risky behavior which results in broken bones or being arrested for confrontations which result in physical altercations.

Then I look back and can't figure out how I could do such a thing.
Constantly looking for some kind of "high" which makes me feel calm, and able to control my thoughts.

It's best for me to watch my diet and exercise though sometimes, I need to break down and take medication. I have a strict diet, exercise alot, yet it still doesn't control it completely. Almost got myself killed last summer, and it took months before I really understood that. Catwalking on a dam, then sliding down it. My wife was really mad. She also get's really upset when I jump on the couch, play music loudly or run around without clothes with the blinds/shades open. I forget to close them. Then she starts hounding me to take medication, something I don't care for.

If I ever got hurt, couldn't exercise, I would need to take medication daily. No doubt.

The problem is not what you said, it is how you said it.

Good idea? Aging is a struggle against three plaques:

    1. the plaque that causes tooth decay

    2. the plaque that causes artery clogging

    3. the plaque that causes Alzheimer's Disease

Fortunately for those IN CHRIST: there ain't no plaques in Heaven save that which says WELL DONE, Son Jesus!

and it would not surprise me if there isn't some ADHD plaque that will be found

Actually, I did hear a couple yrs ago that the plastic that is being used in our soda bottles, Water bottles, and Platex nurser plastics...The plastic molecules break down and destroys the lining of our nerves in our nervous systems.
This is one reason it is recommended not to refill water bottles.
I heard this on the Today Show, I think 2 yrs ago, and some scientists were linking this problem to the uprise in ADHD cases...

    Which makes sense...
When the culture started using more plastic... when we went from glass coke bottles to plastic... when moms started using plastic bottles instead of breast feeding... When Naive... I mean Evian started bottling water and selling it to us.. .we started hearing of this new disease ADD/ADHD.

I also have a feeling we will find out that this is also the rise in Bipolarism in America.
