I need some advice. Maybe I should just pray about this more, but maybe you nice folks can help me too.

We just had a lady at work leave or get fired. Turns out the rumor is that she was a witch or wiccan due to her star shaped necklace (looked like a pentagram). Somebody also said she left a feather at her desk and had said (second hand info) that something really bad would happen to whoever "moved the feather".

The lady is gone now, so there is no way for us to confirm or deny the rumor or get more information. My question regards the "feather".

While I have no fear of the curse on the feather, I think people are watching me to see what I will do.

    Should I:

    a. Move the feather (and state that I did or let people witness me move it)

    b. Leave it alone. Let it sit there forever.

    c. wait until no one is looking and remove it and discard it.

    (a) is bolder, but opens me up to some random bad thing happening and people thinking "oh, thats the curse".

    (b) actually makes it kind of obvious that I either don't care or that I am afraid of the witch magic

    (c) makes the problem go away with no risk of confirming the curse, but if some catches me either moving it, see (a) or doing it stealthily, see (c).

Arm yourself with Bible verses and throw the feather in the trash right in front of everyone.

I'd pack up the feather and send it to her home address with a 'you dropped something' type note.

I wouldn't make a big deal of it. If it is your job to clean the desk, throw out the feather. If it is not your job to clean the desk, let whoever cleans it remove it.

"I'd pack up the feather and send it to her home address with a 'you dropped something' type note. "

    This made me laugh.

    Thanks for the replies.

I would encourage you to spend much time in prayer for her, and then find a way to befriend her and show her the love of Christ. I had a girl in my youth group when I was a youth pastor who practiced wicca. While just about everyone else in the church pushed her away in fear of "the witch", I took the time to educate myself on the religion of wicca and reached out to her and her family, about three years later most of the "Christian" kids had left the youth group, but this girl ended up praying to recieve Christ and is one of the only kids from the youth group that still stays in touch with my family.

A great place to learn more about the religion of wicca is here: http://www.exwitch.org/

I agree with JGrubbs' advice and also recommend the website he gives. I have a link to it on my links page and know Kathi (the ex-witch who runs it).

I used to do astrology charts for witches and Wiccans. I have an article at
    http://cana.userworld.com/cana_wicca.html

I wrote it first in 1995, have modified and updated it over the years. I get quite a bit of email from Wiccans and witches due to that article and am able to dialogue with them. Also meet many in my ministry.

Are you really afraid that she actually has some magical ability to harm you or cause you trouble?

Magic is nothing to play with There are most likely spirits attached to the feather so it would be a good idea to pray the devils away before going any where near it.

Jesus may be the only one watching. With faith in your heart, go brush the feather on the cheeks of those you believe may be wondering about your faith. See if any of them “scatter”. Christian faith, ituttut

Just throw the feather away. The desk has to be cleaned off at some point anyway.

"Greater is HE that is in you than he that is in the world."

It's just a feather and let everyone know that what you believe about it.

I have a family member who is into this sort of thing. His wife (soon to be ex-wife) found some stuff she was frightened to deal with. It turned out to be a great opportunity to share how these things used to scare me until I met the Savior.

I explained to her how there is no battle for men's souls. The Devil has not power of the blood of Christ. Anyway, she had already "burned" the thing or I would have offered to help her with it. (She heard burning it was the only safe way to dispose of this thing)

I would ask whoever was afraid of it if they would like me to dispose of it for them since it doesn't bother me. Use that chance to share some Scripture with them.

I do thank you for starting this thread. I was wondering about how to witness to my family member now, and his new girlfriend. Apparantly he is divorcing his wife and is now living with someone who practices Wicca. (His wife was totally heartbroken) I have been looking for resources on this subject, mostly, the best way to approach and share the gospel with them. I will check out the links listed. Thanks for sharing them!

If I understand her question, she was more worried about what kind of impact her actions would have on others.

My former Pastor was a fairly respected man of God. (In fact, there is a building named after him at one of the larger Baptist Seminaries.) He told us once: "Don't play with the devil. Don't think that you can prove to a group of kids that Satan is powerless by buying a tarot deck and making "false" predictions, because Satan may very well make your predictions "true" in order to win the kids over. Turn it over to God, leave it with God. Don't tempt God. Don't tempt Satan."

The "danger" in the "feather" is not to the Christian herself. It is to the unbelievers around the Christian.

I think if you don't give any importance to it at all, you are on safe ground. I do, though, think Diane has a good idea. Returning it to the owner seems like a good idea to me.

LOL people are kinder to witches than to liberals...

    Burn her at the stake!

Please don't take this seriously. :D [IMG]

Move the feather to the copier so you won't have to wait in line any more. :D

Seriously, I like the idea of sending the feather back to her with a tract. I'd also like to add the idea of replacing the feather with a tract (if there aren't any office policy against it). However, if the feather cost this lady her job, a tract might threaten your job.

She could've been fired for a totally different reason. People like to gossip.

Yeah the feather returned with a tract is a good idea. The "you forgot something" line, though funny, would not be a good witness I think.

Maybe a verse that talks about God sheltering us under His wings, or something like that. Ya'll know what verse I'm thinking of I think.

I don't know who you are asking this question of, but I certainly do not believe witches have power. However, power can work through them but they can't really control it. They often end up themselves seeing spirits and things around. Some of them are sacred; some take it in stride. Some think they can get it to leave.

No christian should be afraid of a witch, Wiccan, feather, spell, etc. We should be concerned for their eternal destiny and pray for them.

If the feather bothers you sitting there, just go over and throw it away whether anyone is looking or not. Nothing will happen to you anymore than if you threw a candy wrapper away.

Two phrases you used here concern me: "rumor is" and "somebody said". This is nothing short of engaging in rumor and gossip, which we are strictly forbidden from doing. You dont' even know if she was a witch. Look at all the damage and emotional stife that engaging in rumor and gossip has coused at yoru workplace. Chances are she probably just liked gothic jewelry or some such thing, and everyone has jumped to conclusions.

Ask your boss if he'she minds if you clean out the area. If you have the okay, then pick it up and toss it in the nearest trash receptacle, as well as anything else she might have left in the cubicle.

There is no such thing as curses, spells, etc. You as a Christian should know that. Toss the feather, and if anyone asks, tell them you don't believe in curses. Then tell them that you've admittedly engaged in rumor and gossip, and that it probably wasn't a good idea to do that. Then drop the subject. When the next hiree comes in, make them feel at home.
