Agapeo, Phileo

    Regarding agapeo and phileo in John 21:15-17, this came up in the Translation and Sola Scriptura thread, and I had not heard about it before. I did a quick search and found this discussion. There are no doubt others worth reading as well. Very interesting! Another pearl from the Word of God. And good for Peter!

    OK, I guess I had it backwards...

    It was my misconception that agape was the more profound love compared to phileo in describing the depth of love.

    All this time, I thought agape love was the most profound, deep from the heart, totally emptying one's self in the expression of that love.

    I learn someting new every day in my old age...

    My understanding of phileo is that it would be much like a relationship with a lifelong friend that you would do anything for.
