Well, the misplaced emphasis on patriotism. Seems to me that kind of zeal should be reserved for citizenship in Christ's Kingdom.

The whole reference to women needing to be able to cook to achieve some sort of significance was just strange. Why can't dad cook, too?

Yes, I most certainly do, but that doesn't erase the fact that there are still tensions that impact everyone.

I'm sure the composer of the poem was not speaking in terms of absolutes, only what was commonly practiced by God fearing members of our society. Since when did patriotism become a dirty word?

I see the good ole days as being days much further past than the 50s or the Leave it to Beaver days. Here's a thought: let's go to days where the gospel was preached as the gospel and obeyed as the gospel, a day where full-on, hardcore obedience to the gospel and a passion for the Kingdom of God, for the message of Christ, and for the fullness of the Holy Spirit has NEVER been seen before?

The thing that makes the good old "The Good Old Days" is selective memory.

No doubt things have slipped, as sin does more and more damage to our American culture. Personnally I think it will continue to worsen untill Christ returns.

    The Poem is hogwash.

Appreciate the time we live in..
We can be light in a dark world.

The poem ignores many aspects of society that, Thank God, has gone by..

    Racism
    Sexism
and the fact that women were expected to stay with Jerks that beat them.

Praise God I live in 2010!
    This is a wonderful life!

Quit trying to relive the past... Paul talks about this in the Bible.

Excellent post. Thread title should be 'Agree or disagree, as long as you agree.'

No one has been censured in their responses to the OP. If people disagree over the OP is that an unhealthy thing?

Obviously an "AMEN" from my corner. Anyone who thinks the "good ol' days" were all that "good" isn't functioning on all cylinders methinks.

And 20,000 years from now, people will talk about us as "the early church".

Well, the OP commentary reminded me of a song by the great country artist and song writer Merle Haggard. (I am a big Merle Haggard fan)
