You asked Rev, Mitchell for links and evidence to prove his statement that, "Al Jazeera is a wing of the extreme terrorism of the Muslim community."

In a purely, argumentative, yet rhetorical manner, you made an inquisitive statement when you asked the good Rev. to provide [/B]the "links and evidence" that you insinuated you have to support that the Rev doesn't know what he is talking about!

So, again, where is your support and evidence to prove that AJ is NOT an extreme terrorist group in the Muslim community???

The world has learned a lot about Al Gore these past few days. Al "the environmentalist" Gore is apparently less offended by Qatar's world-leading oil exports than by the prospect of missing out on pocketing $100 million. And, less offended by Al Jazeera's pro-terrorism, anti-American propaganda than by Glenn Beck's conservatism.

Al Jazeera spokesman Stan Collender told USA Today that the new channel “will offer straightforward, in-depth journalism,” but many in the news media are dubious of that statement. Al Jazeera does not exactly have a spotless record for “straightforward” reporting:

In 2008, former ABC-TV Nightline reporter Dave Marash, brought on to anchor Al Jazeera English for American audiences, quit after two years and said the anti-American bias at the station was “reflexive.”

Media watchdog groups have also stepped up to voice their concerns about this deal. Andrea Levin, president and director of the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, told USA TODAY:

“The agreement by Al Jazeera cable television network to buy Current TV is not necessarily a plus for U.S. cable operators or their audiences. It (Al Jazeera Arabic) is not the Middle East equivalent of CNN, as it is often but mistakenly described.”

That is certainly a case of guilty until proven innocent. It would be nice if the birthers would be asked for links and sources that the president is not a natural born citizen.

Al-Jazeera is not, however, a communications medium in the Western sense; it is a psychological warfare medium. Its cameras are always turned outward; they never criticize Qatar's tyrannical, dictatorial, corrupt, plutocratic leaders or their exploitation of foreign workers, who have neither the status nor rights of Qatari nationals. Al-Jazeera's ongoing propaganda campaign against the Arab states in the Middle East is a move chosen by the rulers of Qatar to deflect Arab, Western and effervescent local attention from what is happening in the corrupt Al-Thani family's dark, closed emirate of wealth.

Although it promises aid to financially needy Islamic countries, it sends just the occasional pittance when t feels a need to bolster its popularity. Meanwhile huge unreported sums go to support Islamist terrorist organizations such as Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Jabhat Alnusra Al Islamiya in Syria. The rest of country's enormous oil revenues are channeled into the coffers of the rulers and their close associates, and are used to pay for their entertainment or for building enormous towers. The rest of the population -- most of which are foreign workers whose labor they exploit and who have no civil or social rights -- is not invited to join the party.

That's about to change now that Al-Jazeera is spending $500 million to acquire Current TV, the left-leaning cable news network co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore. The deal gives Al-Jazeera access to about 50 million homes. As part of an expansion, the network is promising to hire more journalists and double the number of U.S. news bureaus it has.

Still, some big questions remain for Al-Jazeera, which is owned by the government of Qatar: How will it stand out in a crowded field of cable TV news channels? The meteoric rise of the network and its increasing popularity have led many political and media commentators in the Arab world to wonder exactly who or what was behind what appears to be its main purpose: encouraging opposition and promoting incitement against Arab regimes, exposing the corruption of their leaders and their entourage, while holding to an extreme Arab nationalist attitude against the US and Israel and extolling the values of conservative – and sometimes extremist – Islam. It did not take long for one name to emerge: the Muslim Brotherhood. This hypotheisis is supported by a number of facts. The director-general of the network, Wadah Khanfar, was a member of the organization in Jordan, where he was arrested. Today he is one of the closest advisers of the emir. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi is also a member of the inner circle of the emir and is known to work closely with Khanfar. Both support Hamas. Arab researchers have succeeded in uncovering a number of other Brothers working for the network, but it is surmised that there are many more. The general consensus is that Qaradawi is the visible tip of the iceberg. In an article published in 2003 in the London-based Arabic daily Asharq al-Awsat, Maamun Fendi, a well-known Egyptian liberal thinker today living in the US, wrote that some 50 percent of the network’s personnel belong to the Muslim Brotherhood. He added that their influence in Qatar was rising both in the network and among government circles. According to him, the Brotherhood had intended to hold its world summit in Qatar in 2003 but had to scuttle its plan when it became known. These summits are usually held in a European capital far from Arab countries, in conditions of the utmost discretion, if not secrecy. Fendi believes that Qatar, by embracing the Brotherhood, an extremist Islamic organization quite popular in the Arab world, while hosting American bases, has found the perfect formula against retaliation by Arab leaders and attacks by all other Arab and Islamic extremists including al-Qaida.

In general, Aljazeera Arabic balances groundbreaking news with Qatari interests, however awkward this approach may be. Accordingly, the U.S. audience should understand that the news and viewpoints published on the network's English website are often not seen on the Arabic site, a discrepancy often reflected in the television coverage. Unfortunately, Aljazeera's English/Arabic bifurcation helps to ensure that these constituencies will never see eye to eye. As long as this practice continues, Aljazeera should not be touted as a true reformer or promoter of democracy.

It was said tongue in cheek. I really don't think that Gore's decision to sell Al Jazeera was prompted by the capital gains tax rate increasing in 2013. Selling an asset as large as a TV network to a foreign entity does not play out in less than 12 months. Still, it would be good business to be sure to close the deal before Jan 1st, so tax rates might have been a factor.
