This is an extremely dangerous move by a taxpayer-funded organization. I hope the ACLU will watch this very closely and if the 1st amendment is violated that it will immediately take this issue to court.

The title is untrue as the Bible used to be the primary text book in schools.

If I recall my history correctly, the Bible was among our first text books in schools in this country. How times change. But a lot of the history that I was taught back in the 40's and 50's isn't the same history as being taught today.

Maybe my age gets in the way here. In the 40's and 50's we had some Bible and a lot of history that isn't taught today. We used the OT of the Bible to study a lot of ancient history of Israel, as well as the impact it had on so many who came to this country and of so many of the leaders or founding fathers.

We had Alexander The Great and his Koine Greek and how it was the language of the NT. Also had work on Mohammad and how he was going all over the world till he was stopped in France. Had a chapter on him if I recall correctly and about 2 or 3 chapters on Islam.

Had about a chapter on Simon Bar Cochba and the Macabees. In the 5th grade all went to Washington, DC to see all the buildings and couldn't get out of my mind all the Scripture that was engraved in those buildings.

Had the history of the fight to get the Bible printed into the language of the people. Had about 5 chapters that went over the Anabaptist, RCC and other groups and people like Knox, Luther, Calvin, Westley and many others as we went through their time in history. If I recall correctly if something had a big impact on the times it was in history.

When one got out of school he knew what folks of different faiths believed. No one doctrine was taught. Even a few of the other religons of the world was taught, about 5 or 6.

We were even taught of John Dewey and his views. I think Dewey has won in our schools.

But it was a different time, we were taught evolution but we had a few chapters on creations, neither one was taught as a fact. How time change.

What a great way to pollute the word of God, give it to the public schools to teach.

    Color me not excited.

When we continue to strip God the Bible and prayer from our schools which has been there since the beginning of our country we should not be surprised when our students are slaughtering each other, we shouldn't be surprised that we are committing our own Genocide under the cover of womens rights (although we are more worried about condemning the genocide of another country that happened almost 100 years ago) we shouldn't be surprised when young children are bearing young children, we shouldn't be surprised when condemns are more important than God and murder rates are higher than ever.

But hey lets close down the prisons as well and let all the deviants run loose so society can destroy itself. Might as well God is not here anyway. After all "Christians" are pushing God out of the public square as well.

Or, you could be like me, and spend your money on a bible-based private Christian school. If you really cared about what yer kids are taught, you would teach them. I'm glad my daughter won't learn about the bible from a "no child left behind" curriculum.

Many of us do, I have a43 and 37 and a 12 year old who have never been to a government school. I think with so many it is they don't like seeing Dewey do what he was trying to do. I think if the schools gave more of the history and background along with the other history so many would not be antichristian. They pick so much of it up in school.

You need to turn in your libertarian credentials. We could do much better than the ACLU.

Not everyone can affor private school. But my comments are about more than just my kids at school. It was about the big picture throughout history and what we can learn from removing God from society. When we remove the Christian influence from society, the righteousness of God, the conviction of the Holy Ghost by removing God as we have over the years then we should not be surprised at the uninhibited deviant behavior and genocied in our country.

If we had not done so we most likely would have more godly public school teachers. More godly parents and those who arent would not be so bold.

If we do not treat the word of God with reverence & honor, we will do more damage than good. I don't see making atheists & evolutionists teach the bible as a good thing.

Why is that? The candidate for the Libertarian Party presidential nomination who I hope wins it is George Phillies. He is the chair of the Worcester County Chapter of the ACLU of Massachusetts.

    What's Dr. Paul's position on the ACLU's activities ?

And do you honestly think they represent America's long-term best interests ? Or are they more in line with the socialst wing of the democrat party ?

The ACLU is not partisan to either party, but are neutral. And yes, they are needed today and do a pretty good job of helping to protect our interests. In this era of George Bush's war on freedom they are needed more than ever!

The ACLU is a communist organization created to destroy the founding principles of this country.

Of course I have not seen the book, but I would wager that it will be critiqued heavily by both conservatives and liberals. It is very difficult to write anything about the Bible that is truly objective without upsetting partisans on either end of the spectrum.
