Yes I do own up to it and have in this thread. You still have not answered my question, would it bother you if you caused another brother to stumble. All you seem to do is defend your right to drink. I dont have a problem with you drinking I have a problem with your drinking causes someone else to

Listen, I have both a brother & a wife that are recovering alcoholics. Ive spent years in the AA halls taking care of alcoholics & in hospitals watching them diterate till they died. And they taught me something, because every week I went & begged some silly drunk not to drink anymore, he would look sincerely in my eyes & say, "but you dont understand, I'm not a drunk" .... Id go away & come back two weeks later to find that guy dead & his replacement telling me, " but you dont understand, Im not a drunk"

AA teaches you about your higher power & it teaches you that you have to own your disease. I know by the grace of God that Ive been spared that hell. But I have my own demons that I manage & attempt to control. Do I open a beer in front of my brother & wife? I try not to & if my brother is with me I order a coke (sugar free). Do I buy liquor in bring it home......well rarely . But my wife is at the stage where she tells me to stop being silly & have a beer & so now I do.

The passage you keep referring to was in regards to eating and drinking items that were offered to idols. It was a spiritual matter, not a physical one.

The "stumbling brother" should also be familiar with Scripture that states they should not hold everyone to their standards, too. It's not a one way street. Someone here said they had a sugar addiction. Should everyone they know refrain from eating cake and ice cream at birthday parties...or should the one with the problem be accountable for how they handle the situation? Ironically the logic used for alcohol is never used in anything else.

Like the "one drink could lead to two, two to three..." the same logic applies to "one hamburger could lead to two, two to three...".

Usually the counter is the normal red herring "but you need food to survive" which is not the purpose in pointing out the faulty logic to begin with.

Should I feel guilty if I have money and a brother is tempted to rob me? Or actually falls and robs me?

All Im asking for is a honest yes or no answer. Not a fight about alcohol, sugar or even tea, just yes or no.

See Danny, I dont cause a Brother to drink. Thats their weakness that causes them to drink. You are the author of that, not me.

Did you not see my reply? There is no "yes or no" straight across the board answer.

In college, preachers and professors taught us that wine in the Bible was only grape juice, fruit of the vine &c. They always had some inflammatory tract written by some funny-mentalist to give us too, or would refer to some horrendously written reference.

I never did believe this, but many preachers do, and still preach that it was grape juice. They also preached the other legalisms.

It was wine. With alcohol content. And they used it, and Jesus Himself must have also, as He was accused of being a gluttonous man, and a winebibber. So He must have done things for a good time also, just not of course, to the level He was accused. I don't think He turned water into grape juice, by the way.

I know preachers who like to drink Great Lakes Brewing Company brews. I heard Elliot Ness is a good one. And Burning River is OK too, I heard :tongue3:. And Edmund Fitzgerald. I use to live up that way.

Servent, did you say cause them to drink, or to stumble? I think you meant stumble, but you'll never get a direct answer from this guy.

Yes I meant stumble, and for the record it would tear me apart inside if I caused this in another person, not just drinking but anything. If I affended anyone by my comments I apologize.

You have offended no one. It may have served as troll food, but you have not offended anyone that I can see.

Somewhere not far away a legalist is angry!!!

I wonder, did the Pharisees get angry with our Lord because they saw Him enjoying pleasures, and His company?

Oh, I'm sure they did. If they thought plucking grain and eating it on the Sabbath was "working", they would be capable of anything.

Now the bigger question was if He made beer instead of wine during the wedding, would it have been a lager or an ale? :D

Well, depends on the congregation. I lived next to a black Baptist church. They said it would probably be a malt liquor. Most likely Colt45!!!

Use your head for a minute would you. I have been helping alcoholics get sober & live better lives for years. Do you seriously think I dont care about them?

What I dont want to do is give someone an excuse to drink because Ive seen what they do, they use it to ruin their lives & the lives of everyone around them. The alcoholic, the drug addict, whatever needs to own their disease & work to get stronger & not blame others for their weaknesses. I will not be a co-dependent or the excuse for someone destroying themselves....Period.
