I would consider getting Sky Angel satellite sytem installed. There are many many programs on natural health on many of the channels. Everyone that reads this that doesn't have Sky Angel, is really doing themselves and their family a disservice.

    One of the programs,
Your Health Matters is a live hour long talk show that takes phone calls.

Well, Sky Angel is a Christian owned and operated satellite company providing homes across America 20 TV channels and 16 radio channels. All the channels are Christian owned and operated, but the programming is Christian and family friendly. I have Sky Angel satellite and basic cable, some people have DISH satellite and Sky Angel, it doesn't matter what you have, you can just add it to you home.

I don't want to sound like a commercial, but go to www.skyangel.com and check it out. Sky Angel does carry the Liberty Network from Lynchburg and www.Faithtelevisionnetwork.com, a great channel.

Let me know what you think. By the way, I'm watching Your Health Matters right now and he's taking a live call.

This is a bit off subject but I wish there was a "medical issues" forum here on the BB. I have often wondered as a pastor how others have counseled people in the areas of chronic pain, etc.

My wife also had wonderful success with a natural remedy for a brown recluse bite.

    How about it moderators?

Best thing is to ignore completely anyone on an internet message board claiming to know what they are talking about and going to see an educated expert. Also avoid anyone who states things like "I know the truth." The TRUTH is they don't have a clue and are generally delusional themselves and need help also. Also ignore anyone who claims a proven medical condition doesn't exist. They are either the must ignorant person to exist or are trying to hide their own problems by trying to convince others they don't exist at all.

I like the post about somebody walking daily with another person and talking. Somebody did that for me once in 1990 I think it was when I had gained some wait and has some depression. It worked great! I lost the weight and felt better.

While prayer is an excellent way to communicate with God, we should not be praying for a way to overcome depression, we should be praying for God to help us implement the answer He has already provided in His Word. God's Word tells us how to have peace. We don't need to "pray" for an answer He has already provided.

This is all we need. That may sound too simple for some people, but it's true. God's Word says and it and I not only believe it, I have experienced this truth after learning how to apply this to my life.

I used to worry ALOT and have severe anxiety and panic attacks. I used to struggle with relationships and had trouble getting along with people. I had trouble "loving" people who had done some truly awful things to me and my family. ALL of these things were fixed when I learned how to walk in the Spirit. Part of walking in the Spirit means to put into practice what God's Word says to DO. I put these verses to practice in my life and my life has changed tremendously! Problems, suffering, they still come, but I have learned how to let the Spirit renew my mind so that I do not focus on the circumstance, but rather on Christ and His Word. As with Peter, when we take our eyes off Christ, we will fall. When we are focused on ourself and what is wrong with us, our focus is just wrong. Here is how I applied this Scripture to my life. I came up with a few examples to show you how this works.

Depression is in the mind. It is a result of thinking on things that are not true, noble, right, pure, lovely admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Just like anger will grow when your thoughts remain on it, so will depression. Have you ever been mad at someone? The more we think about what they did, the madder we became. Thinking about what made me angry only made me angrier. This is true with everything! If we think right, we will feel right. Here are a few examples of what I mean.

    3 examples of thinking

I don’t like myself, I feel worthless and useless

I am upset with my spouse/parent/sibling. They did something that hurt me terribly.

I am worried about things, how I will pay the bills, or I am ill am scared about what will happen to me, or I can’t sleep because I feel like I have no control over my life

How do we correct these ways of thinking?

    Thought #1

Is the thought that I am thinking true, noble, right, pure, lovely admirable, excellent, praiseworthy?

Thought: You are worthless and Useless
    Answer: No

This is not true, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy.

If you are in Christ you are not worthless and useless. Of course we are all sinners and all make mistakes. That is a truth that the Bible teaches and we must accept. Nothing we do on our own will ever make us worthy of God’s love. But if you have accepted Christ and have His Spirit within you, then you are a child of God! In God’s eyes you are righteous, not because of what you have done, but because Christ lives within you!

So, stop thinking it, replace this thought with the truth from God’s Word.

    Thought #2

Is the thought that I am thinking true, noble, right, pure, lovely admirable, excellent, praiseworthy?

Thought: I am upset with my spouse/parent/sibling. They did something that hurt me terribly.
    Answer: No

While the thought may be true, it is not noble, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. So what do we do, change the thought. You may be hurt, but there is one who will never hurt you, that is God. Correct your thinking. Instead of focusing on the hurt that was done to you, learn to forgive as Christ forgave you. Focus on the truth you find in God’s Word.

    Thought #3

Is the thought that I am thinking true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy?

Thought: I am worried because I don’t know how I will pay the bills, or what my illness will do to me, or have any control over my circumstances
    Answer: No

While it is true that you do not know the answers to these things, as a Christian you do know the One who does. To focus on what you do not know is not admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. God has promised in His Word that He would provide all of our needs and that He would never leave us nor forsake us. That is praiseworthy and therefore what we ought to be thinking about. Focus on the right way of thinking by focusing on the truth in God’s Word.

It's that simple, change your thinking. Renew your mind, have the mind of Christ. When your mind is on Christ it CANNOT be depressed!

Many people claim that a depressed person can't help feeling the way that they do. They are so depressed they just don't feel like reading their Bible. They can't motivate themselves to care or try. The Bible doesn't say that we must "feel" like doing this for it to work. The Scripture says to put it into practice. As Nike would say, "Just do it." I like the way it reads in the KJV.

DO, it's that simple! Who ever feels like loving their enemy? I surely don't, but when I step out in faith and do it anyway, the peace, joy and yes, eventually feeling of "love" will follow. The world follows their emotions. "If it feels good, do it" is the motto of the world. But we are not of this world, we are not to be conformed to it's ways, but rather we are to be transformed. How? By the renewing of our minds! We need to practice "biblical thinking!"

Believe me, it works! Oh, it doesn't work overnight. You didn't get depressed in a day and it will take awhile to learn how to walk in the Spirit. It will take awhile to remember to correct your thinking when you start thinking wrong. It takes awhile for the "emotion" to catch up to the action, but it will. God's Word promises us that. Trust in His Word and DO what it says.

There are times when my thinking begins to return to that which is not true, noble admirable, etc. Sometimes focusing on what someone does makes it really hard for me to think on the things I should. Sometimes in those cases, I just stop thinking about the situation all together. If I can't seem to get past the anger to let the Scripture show me how to deal with it, I will think about something else all together. Get that person or thing out of my head. Once my "emotions" calm down and I have been thinking about other things that are true, noble and praisworthy, then I will try again to let the Word teach me how to deal with that situation. The thinking still helped me to have peace, because I was thinking on things that are good. Sometimes we have to step back like that. Sometimes we have to think about it anyway.

My mother who has been on anti-depressants for 15 years is beginning to experience this truth. She admits she can't explain it, but as she searches out God's Word and thinks on those things, she "feels" better. It is taking her time to learn how to do this, but she is willing to finally try. 15 years of differing meds at differing doses and still, she finds herself depressed, she is finally willing to try "doing" what God's Word says. I get so excited when see her learning how to think.

I get excited when I see anyone come to understand that God's Word isn't just true, but that it works! It's not about how much your pray, or how much faith you have, it's about "doing" what His Word says. It may not "feel good" at first, but give it a chance! Trust that God's Word really means what it says! I do! People may think I am delusional for doing so, but I do! God's Word says if you do this you WILL have peace. Guess what, it really means what it says!

I guess thousands flock to the guy in the white suit. What's his name again? Oh Benny Hinn. Years ago in my youth it was Oral Roberts. Hmmm, I wonder whatever happened to the $7 million for that cancer cure he promised?

Seriously, the human body is a chemical factory and sometimes those certain chemicals are lacking in our brain. I wonder if that's why my wife keeps saying, "Don't you remember I told you that?"

So we DO need supplements to aid in those chemical deficiencies. Americans are "pill addicts". Now I wonder where my vitamins, headache pills, high pressure pills and gout medicine are? Oh, there they are.

Saying that depression is treatable with the Bible is akin to saying heart disease or cancer is treatable with the Bible. Clinical depression is just as real a disease as these are. I suppose if you're a Christian Scientist you'd agree that modern medicine isn't relevant.

I would like to avoid the argument that goes:
    prozac/meds for depression is wrong!
    no, its right!
wrong! right! .... this is not usefull.
This is supposed to be about success stories for alternatives to taking meds for depression. I will give an example: I have found that the verses on the following web pages are uplifting when I am down:
    http://douglas7eberman.net/affirmations.html
    http://douglas7eberman.net/twentycans.html
I have actually felt a glow of hope and joy while reading these verses aloud to myself!
