.......On an 11-0 vote Monday, Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) members voted to crack down on drivers refusing service, making Minnesota the first place in the country to decide how to treat Muslim cabbies who decline to transport alcohol-toting riders on religious grounds.
Starting May 11, any airport taxi drivers who refuse riders will face 30-day suspensions. Drivers will have their licenses revoked two years for a second offense.
"We're just sending a message that if you want to drive here at this airport, you have to take all our customers," said Steve Wareham, director of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
Hassan A. Mohamud, an imam at the Islamic Da'wah Center in St. Paul, called the stricter sanctions frustrating and disappointing. "We see this as a harsh penalty against fellow Americans only because they are practicing their faith," the Muslim scholar said. "This does not reflect the American values of tolerance and accommodation......"

Cabbies are licensed by the city or county or airport. When they place themselves under secular authority, they have to play by the same rules as everyone else.

    Great ruling.

Watch for the lawsuit by CAIR.

We had a recent poster on the Baptist Board who had issues with towing beer trucks. On that occasion we said it was up to individual conscience. What has happened since then to change our opinion?

    Dreadful ruling.

If they are told to do something at work, and they don't do it, I support their termination. I don't consider it an employer's responsibility to consider religious affiliation before designating tasks.

This is a great ruling, and the 11-0 majority truly warms my heart.

Secular authority (cabbies) versus tow truck owned by family. Two different matters and situations. apples and oranges.

One always has a choice NOT to be employed by a particular employer if doing something on the job violates one's religious or personal beliefs. If muslim employees of a grocery store feel offended by scanning hams, they shouldn't work there. If a Christian employee feels offended by working in a muslim doctor's office, he or she shouldn't work there. There are choices and options in this country and civil law takes precedent over personal beliefs.

Like the OP says, sharia lost this round.

Unlike what happened to Dell in Nashville. I have yet to see an employer allow Christian employees to walk off the job to go say prayers at certain times of the day.

As already mentioned, CAIR is bound to get involved on this one, too:

No, we ought to obey God rather than man. Muslims believe this, too. The fact that it is "terms of employment" being changed makes no difference.

Will be interested in how the Somali cabbies handle this and hope to hear more in the future.

My wifes former employer tried to make her work on sunday after being told this would not be required for employment. She resigned on Monday and began her new job the following Monday. Employers are not required to be fair or accomodating to every issue in the world. If that were the case they would go out of business in a New York second. It is an impossible task. And it is unreasonable to expect that of them.

Actually we believe we ought o obey God rather than men. Muslims believe they should obey Allah rather than men. A big defference.

No, I do not concede this point whatsoever, and it is an error on your part. "Allah" means God in Arabic. That is all. It is the same for Baptists or Muslims.

Muslims do not believe in the God that sent His Son to die for our sins. The use of the word Allah has nothing to do with nothing other than you do not find it in the scriptures of the one true and living God. And that God is not the God of the Muslims. The muslim worship air for a God and the man named Mohammed. And unless they forsake Allah and believe in the Son of God then they are on thier way to hell. And the error is believeing that it is the same for Baptists. Just because someone claims to believe in God does not mean it is the God of Abraham, Isac, and Jacob. And int he case of Muslims it is not.

"Allah" is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, just the Arabic word for God. "Worship air for a god" I have no idea what you mean by; never heard that one before. Muslims do not worship Mohammed anymore than Jews worship Isaiah.

You cannot deny the deity of Jesus Christ and worship the God of Abraham, Issacc and Jacob. It just is not possible. and Muslims should be prayed for as they ar on the path to eternal separation from God.

I'm sorry you feel that way about Christ.

Amity, you are quite incorrect. You cannot deny Jesus and worship the God of Abraham.

No reason to feel sorry about how I feel. I did not say it God did.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him,I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

And buy the way it is possible to be a Jew and to be a Christian. It is not the same for Muslims.
