This OP is a simple question, but one which I am sure will receive a variety of answers. Basically, it is this: How can America best turn her economy around, and become prosperous?

I'll start by giving my opinion, although I'll admit it's not a full fledged answer yet. It's more of a "This is what we need to do but how do we do it?" answer.

    1. We need to quit expanding the national debt.

    2. We need to eliminate the national debt.

    3. We need to get more people into the workforce and off of welfare.

    4. We need to undergo budget cuts, even if it hurts.

So, open the floodgates and lets the good times roll!

Abolish the Federal Reserve. Get the government and "to big to fail" banks out of the economy/market management business.

In other words, get rid of the debt based monetary system and adopt a debt free monetary system like our founders envisioned and the U.S. constitution calls for.

Why should the government borrow money at interest from a private banking cartel when it is authorized by the constitution to create it's own interest free money?

There's only two reasons. It benefits the private banking cartel by having a monopoly on creating profit from nothing and it benefits the politicians who would have to raise taxes to "pay the bills" instead of piling up an ever increasing amount of debt to the private banking cartel.

No one wants to have their taxes raised. The politicians that would have to raise taxes (to pay for more military interventions and socialist programs for example) instead of amassing more debt to "pay the bills" wouldn't stay in office long.

and we must do that by ending all these govt give-a-way programs.

How about the one where the Feds give money to farmers NOT to raise crops.

Other programs to end (and don't mention welfare, food stamps - we all agree on that)

The first objective would be to find a fiscal conservative, and pray we can make it until 2017.

On the subject of farmers, they are cashing in big on ethanol, which is bad for the environment and bad for automobiles.

Peter Schiff is a hero of mine. If more American leaders, and leaders-to-be, would listen to him we'd be in a much better place.

    I can't access Youtube, but I'm sure it's good.

By the way, he recommends that America submit to bankruptcy ASAP. We need to start over and can't kick the can down the street any longer. Austerity is in our immediate future so that a few decades from now improvement can result.

Unfortunately most of our "leaders" benefit from serving the people who benefit from our debt and misery.

The economy will not show significant improvement until Obama is gone.

Even though we made a bad choice twice, Obama is not the problem. We have a terminal case of immorality and greed, along with the rest of the world. We have been working on this for over 239 years. We have exponentially expanding bureaucratic systems unsustainable by an ever decreasing tax base--largely based on taxing of vices. We have been technically bankrupt for several generations.

Maybe we can generate some more money by marriage license fees from gays and polygamists. A little pot tax might be helpful too.

Time to wake up--we got trouble--right here in River City.

    Word for the day: REPENT.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

He is not the sole culprit --but he is the primary actor.
    True enough.

Poncho, I haven't had a chance yet to watch the video, but plan on doing so.

Since the idea of bankruptcy has come up, what type of effect would it have on our economy? I am assuming that the biggest immediate impact would be the inability to borrow more money. But beyond that, what would the impact be?

Businesses that have Accounts receivable would be out the money. And for a small business that could be a big problem. And then that small business may not want to do business unless the money is upfront. (like that would ever happen)
