Yes, well, you've obviously never had someone turn up and turf you (or your neighbour/ relative) out of your (their) home (Irish being dispossessed by English/ Scots or Palestinians by Israelis) and then have another nationality (Americans) loudly support the right of the dispossessor to do that. Don't get me wrong - I don't condone the gloating of someone else's death or misfortune, even if that person is viewed by you as somehow your enemy. But, viewed in that context, was their reaction that much different from that of the New Yorker's cheering and gloating over the death of Osama a few weeks back?

Well it was the Arab leaders who advised the Palestinians to get out so that they could whup Israel. They made their own beds it would seem. And if they consider us as the enemy, fine. So be it. We know how things stand don't we.

You're talking 1948-9 there. What about all those on the West Bank who have lost their homes since 1967? They weren't advised to leave. They were told - by Israeli bulldozers and tanks.

At Camp David the Palestinians were offered 95% of the land taken in the 1967 war, which talks they walked out of. Beyond that I think Israel will not go. Unless they want to commit national suicide.

Two elephants in the drawing room there: the status of Jerusalem and the right to return.
