    From yesterday's Fox News Sunday:

"And we are working and discussing with others what kind of framework would really allow us not just to get out of the immediate crisis, as important as that is, but also to lay a foundation so that we don't have continual further crises, because I just want to repeat a cessation of violence is crucial, but if that cessation of violence is hostage to Hezbollah's next decision to launch missiles into Israel or Hamas' next decision to abduct an Israeli citizen, then we will have gotten nowhere." - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

The Islamofascists probably thought that we would go running to the Israelis and put pressure on them to cease their military operations immediately as we have in past decades.

Were they ever wrong this time!

"In order to have a lasting cessation of hostilities, you have to take those steps where the government of Lebanon exercises control over its entire space and Hezbollah is dismantled," the official said.

The official's comments bolstered the view of analysts who have interpreted Washington's statements on the crisis to mean that the Bush administration wants to allow Israel space to wipe out Hezbollah's infrastructure."

The US is not the center of the universe. I got the impression that this was about Hezbollah taking advantage of Israel's skirmishes with Palestine to press about the release of POWs, some of whom have been held for 20 years. How is this about the US?

The whole bunch are Islamofascists, Daisy, just like al Qaeda is made up of.

There will never be peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians(and their supporters) until one side or the other achieves total military victory.

I'm hoping it's the Israelis who eventually win. How about you?

I disagree that there will never be peace - or rather that peace without total defeat is impossible.

    Daisy,

I would like for you to meet the Cheif "POW" (as you call them) that Hezbollah is trying to get released. His name is Samir Kuntar. That name is probably not very common to Americans, but it is very well known to the only surviving member of a family he slaughtered in 1979. Here is the account of the events that led to the capture and imprisonment of this so-called "POW":

    Link

Here is the link that confirms that Kuntar is, indeed, the "POW" (your words, not mine) that Hezbollah is wanting back in exchange for the Israeli soldiers. Now, you might have some sympathy for this "POW" (your words, not mine) and for the Hezbollah's intentions to get him freed, but somehow, I think this man is nothing but a two bit soul-less terrorists who should have been executed for what he did.

All terrorist groups need to be wiped out.

Peace is not the absence of war. It is the absence of the threat of war. Periods of appeasment and containment are not periods of peace.

This war on an idea, this war on "terror" needs to be renamed. To be accurate it would be called the war on militant Islam or the war on Islamofascism.

Agreed. The West is too politically correct.

The problem, Joseph, is that it's hard to muster up long term support for a war on something as amorphous as "terror".

In World War II we didn't just say we were engaged in a war with fascism. We were in a war with Germany, Japan, and Italy. Even after we defeated them there were still fascists in the world, but we weren't at war with them as they were not fighting us.

Even after we defeat the militant Islamists, the Islamofascists, there will still be terrorists in the world. But we won't be at war with them as they will not be fighting us.
