    Inspired by Joshua's posting of "Prodigal Me," I wanted to also share the lyrics to Kyle Matthew's "Been Through the Water." It's a great message!

    Preacher pulled the boy up from the water
    Alleluias rose from the banks
    There was a new suit of clothes from his Father
    And a prayer of thanks

    The boy walked barefooted all the way home for dinner
    And when they laughted at his muddy feet...

    He said I've been through the water and I've come out clean

    Moving song. I like the story songs. BUT the theology is off (you knew that) as it emphasizes baptism as the point of salvation.

    "Been through the water and came out clean" is typical Nazarene or Church of Christ teaching that puts baptism on a par with faith in your salvation.

    Nonetheless, good lyrics.

    I always understood it as the baptism of the Spirit upon salvation. But you may have a point.

    Bro. Scott and Bro. Dr. Bob... I love Kyle Matthews' music. He is an astounding songwriter. While I've had the same questions about "Been Through the Water" that you both expressed here, it is indeed a moving song.
