Dear Virginia State Senators and Delegates,

I am writing this letter to you with a heavy heart.

We as a people have the responsibility and solemn obligation to do all within our power to protect innocent life and especially the life of children. We have failed to that end. Daily, over 4,000 babies are killed before birth in our Nation and it is appalling. Where is the compassion and common sense that we pride ourselves in having? The power is in your hands to protect innocent human life in this State. The sad reality however is that many of those who represent the people of this State will neglect this duty.

Political games and viewpoints mean nothing to those who are being denied life. The issue isn’t whether someone should come into existence but rather the approval of the act of killing that existing individual.

As adults and beings with a conscience, we know that killing innocent people is morally repugnant. Why then do the babies continue to be killed?

Will you act as if children are truly valuable as they are, and do what a moral and compassionate person should do? Will you continue with the politics of staying in office or will you be a true Statesman?

The office you hold is powerful one. You have the power of life and death in your control. How many more children will die as we pretend to be an upright people?

Only you can decide to act properly and justly. I only hope that you rise to that level.

    Sincerely,

    Dennis E. Green

Unless Roe v. Wade is reversed and the issue of abortion left up to the States once again as it was prior to 1/23/1973 there isn't a whole lot that the State legislatures can do except around the edges of the issue.

Roe v Wade won't get reversed until a state passes legislation violating it, gets sued and appeals up to the Supreme Court.

Or until a law or amendment is passed declaring what constitutes a "person". Rational people would say that DNA and life do... however I would never be so presumptuous as to accuse pro-abortion folks of basing their opinion on any kind of consistent standard necessary to produce a rational answer.

There is sufficient conflicting case law that this subject should have already been addressed. The unborn have been alternately declared persons very early in the pregnancy in man slaughter cases involving the death of the mother... and then not persons in the case of abortion- even partial birth abortion.
