The reporter makes it clear that it was the driver's "claim" and not a verified story.

Let's see what the response is from the INS and the police that took him to the INS (
if that is what actually happened) before drawing conclusions.

I have no doubt that there is more to the story.

What does driving while brown mean?

It was the ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, not the INS and they said it was simply standard operating procedures. I wonder how many other truckers have been ask to show their birth certificate at this weighting station before this incidence.

How much identification do you want a person to carry. Isn't a commercial drivers license and a social security number enough?

Have you ever heard of this being done before?

Do you think he would even have been asked for identification if he were white?

MP, you should be thankful for the new immigration law. It would have stopped this incident from happening. If you would read the bill, you would see it says:

So, now that this law is in effect, the police officers have been told exactly what forms of identification are acceptable. One of those documents that is acceptable is a "valid Arizona driver license". The driver from this story presented that license. Had this law been in effect, he would have not had a problem at all.

    New law for the win!

We don't even know if it happened in this instance.

As I pointed out the reporter's story was simply that this guy "claimed".

There was no verification of the events as reported.

What would convince you it happened?

How many links would you like?

Did you read your own links?

How about if you go through them first and then pick the one out that talks about verification of the "claim".

I'm not accepting your homework assignsments at this time.

Every single one of those links has the same source. Try dealing with the primary souce Crabby...the primary source in this instance is the original news broadcast (it's the closest we can get). The original news broadcast says that it was a claim and not verfied.

But if he dealt with the primary source, he might not get to scream "racism!"

I knew that would be the case - that's why I refused to do Crabby's work for him.

He has a nasty little habit of googling a subject and then throwing out the search results as a homework assignment.

I won't do Crabby's homework assignments any more.

He has to learn to read his sources first and then post them.

Although it is funny when his source actually says the opposite of what he hopes it does.

I'm sure targus and wade will admit the error of this detention once all the facts are in, right?

It seems strange that ICE had no response except to "look into the incident."

Where have I said that the detention was lawful or unlawful? I don't have enough facts to make that sort of decision yet.

(btw, I thought you wanted to make peace or something...why do you continue to act like this then? I've laid off you, yet you can't do the same?)

Sure. Glad to. If I miss it be sure to call me on it. :)

Not strange at all. That is one of the things that makes me think that there is more to this than this truck drivers claim.

Actually they did respond stating they were only following standard procedures. I noted that in an earlier post.

Does that make it official enough?

As I asked before, I wonder how many times in the last year ICE agents have ask a person to produce a birth certificate at this truck weighing station?

What does it matter? Did you miss the part where I posted that this new law will clarify and define what documents are acceptable? The new law makes it clear to officers what they, by law, have to accept as identification. Currently they don't have a law to clearly define that for them.

    Good for you.

    Now let's look at this.

If they were ICE agents then it is not the product of the Arizona bill.

Now what you need to do is find the answers to your own question.

How many times in the last year did ICE agents ask a person to produce a birth certificate at this truch weighing station?

Get back to me when you find your answer. :)
