While I disagree wholeheartedly with the statement in the OP, I have always liked the saying, "Bitterness is drinking poison and waiting for someone else to die".
Big difference between bitterness and anger.

Just to throw in my tuppence worth..... Depression is internalised anger! I was horrified when this was first said to me, but having had depressive problems most of my life, there is a certain amount of truth in that.
