I doubt this will raise a lot of hackles in the military ranks. I took it as a slap to the media.

    Serious question.

That's what the media shows, bad things, when no bad things are happening, the media is silent.

I merely thought that Thompson was saying that we could and should win this war.

We are not fighting kids in Iraq. We are fighting well trained adults who hate us and our way of life.

What Thompson said is not important with people like me who would give any chance to vote for him over a Giuliani or Romney. It is the general perception he gives off of making mistake after mistake.

What mistakes? This is a left wing blog. Who is surprised that they feel a need to protray Fred as such. If the left can't portray the right as stupid they will make up mistakes. This is well documented in our history

It really does not matter if you think it was a mistake or not. What matters is how it is perceived by the voters. It takes votes to win.

I really don't see this one as much of a gaff. The only people upset by these comments are those who want us to lose in Iraq.

However, I agree with you that I am very dissapointed with Thompson so far. I was hoping for someone to come out fighting and stand up for the right. Why does the entire republican party seem to be moving left? George Bush's negative popularity is at least partly due to the fact that he is not a conservative. I believe if one canidate would realy come out for conservative values (lower taxes, stronger defense, shrink government, deregulate industry, real free trade, lock up the criminals) they would win by a landslide.

The only voters upset here are the far left. Big surprise.

Ronnie is no conservative. Although he may have some conservative aspects with regards to economics.

No, he's not. Libertarians and conservatives worked arm in arm during the Reagan years in the 80's and in opposing Clintonism during the 90's. I would like to see that cooperation renewed.

I am sure there would be great benefits from that.

The bottom line is that if they can split the conservative/libertarian vote then the left can win with Hillary even if she does not carry a majority.

That that would be terrible for our country.

I know I am not Ron Paul, but as a user of this board please stop calling him Ronnie. His name is Ron, Ron Paul or Dr Paul.

I undertand you don't like him, but he has serverd this country in uniform, he has serverd it as a Doctor, and he has serverd it in our Congress. Whether you like him or not, he has at the very least earned the right to be called by his name and treated with respect.

It isn't Christlike or pleasing at all the way you use his name to make a jab at him. Please stop.

Given you're looking to beat Hillary (good thing) what do you think of Ron Paul?

I don't know much at all about Ron Paul. Does he have a chance? There is also the California congressman, Duncan Hunter. I really liked Hunter in the last debate. But does he have a chance of winning? I would vote for Paul or Hunter over any of the front runners but I don't know if we will get that option.
