    Five more months of current budget levels. That’s what all but three of the largest federal agencies will have to operate with under a new spending package rushed through Congress late last week.
    President Bush is expected to sign the bill tonight, keeping the government running after the 2009 fiscal year begins at 12:01 a.m.
    The package is a combination of three distinct spending bills — Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs — and a continuing resolution (CR) that keeps the government funded through March 6.
    Among the features of the CR:
    • A 3.9 percent average raise for federal employees in the General Schedule system — an increase over President Bush’s proposed 2.9 percent raise......

    At a time when others are making sacrifices I find this totally irresponsible. Most of us working stiffs might get a cost of living raise every two years and even at that we are lucky to even get at the most a %3 raise.
