I'm not willing to compromise any of my views on Christ and the gospel either, but I would more that likely never use a Chick tract to witness to someone. I, more often than not, use the "God loves you personally and wants a relationship with you" approach.

I don't care for Chick tracts. They scared me as a young child and new Christian. I do not believe that when judgement day comes that all of our sins are going to be projected on a movie screen and that we will all sit back and watch.

He has some figurative ideas that, because of cartoonish nature of the tract, come across as literal.

His characters are drawn stereotypically. People going to hell are ugly and mean looking....etc.

To say that I am not a fan of his is putting it mildly. And I will leave it at that. Mild.

    Peace-

Matthew, we are having a discussion on the merit of Chick tracts.

You, on the other hand, because there are some people who don't see the value of them, have labeled your brothers and sisters in Christ as the following:

    </font>
    • false Christians ("claiming to be Christians")</font>
    • Satanists</font>
    • apostates (for those who don't know, this is someone who has turned his/her back on their religious faith)</font>
    Brother, your accusations are unacceptable.

    Peace-
    Scarlett O.

Neither am I. But I seem to remember that a couple of them I found were once fans of me on hot summer days.

The Bible came to Christ as a result of reading those little booklets? Oh, I see how must have meant that. We sure gotta wonder, though, how Paul and Barnabas, Peter and James, et al, ever got anyone to accept the gospel without them.

Maybe you have an idea by now that I am one of those. I appreciate your praising God on my behalf.

    Matthew,

There is no cause to accuse those who are not of the same faith as you. While I do not agree with many, I do not accuse them of being apostate.

The Bible teaches us that satan is the accuser of the Brethren. Don't let satan work through you.

While it is true we are to 'judge righteous judgment', we are not to belittle and accuse.

Encourage others with the Word of God. Accusations only build walls.

When a root of bitterness toward others rises up within you, many are defiled.

Seeing that I am surrounded by those who disagree with my stance, I shall regress this thread, least I get banned. But I will NEVER, EVER EVER change my feelings towards the SBC, or anyone else that Critizes the work of Jack Chick...EVER!

To say I will not change my stance is not a good statement. First off, your stance, or anyone elses for that matter, should never be one that is contrary to God's Word.

Secondly, to make a statement as such, is saying I will not change even if it is contrary to God's Word.

    A very prideful spirit.

Pride goeth before destruction; and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Careful how strongly you support someone, friend.

Everyone who isn't God has a flaw, and everyone's work not inspired by God won't be perfect.
A wise man once said, when picking someone to look up to, pick one who is both dead (dead men commit no more heresy) but more importantly one who has at least one patant flaw so that you don't seem to be idolizing him.

If Jack Chick's work isn't open to criticism like anyone else's, that's the beginning of trouble.

It seems you are more worried about pushing the work of Chick than that of Christ.

What are you going to do in heaven when you are surrounded by SBC [IMG] [IMG]

I love Chick Tracts, but I will not put him in such a position that he is infallible.

As long as we are in this flesh, we are prone to error; and sin.

</font>[/QUOTE]That is quite a judgement call.

I guess I am one of those Apostate SBC's. What have I ever done to you MatthewHenry?

Why do you call me an "apostate" because I am Southern Baptist?

I think I would be reserving that for someone who attacks Jesus Christ rather than spreads the Word. [IMG]

standingfirminChrist, first, I like the picture.
It is nice to have a face on here. It is more personal that way.

Second, I used to use Chick tracts when i was a teen. I then started researching some of his facts and found that he took them out of context.
I really liked the tracts too, but could not compromise what I had found out. Please do some research on his facts. Double check his sources and make sure he doesn't take things out of context. Again, I came to this conclusion as a fan of chick tracts. I remember seeing "This is your life" when I was first 6 yrs old.
I love the comic book style.
But can't overlook the twisting and stretching the truth.

BTW, Are there other tracts out there in that style that are not made by Chick?
    If not, someone should.

The problem I have with the tract shown is the attack on good Christian chaplains who are in the Army.

The Army has never prevented a chaplain from preaching his/her beliefs to the troops. If the chaplain is Southern Baptist, then he certainly has every right and duty to preach that Jesus Christ is the ONE WAY to heaven.

Chick makes it look as if an educated Army chaplain is evil.

Take a look at my e-mail address, so that you can see the basis of my opinion on this matter.

Wonderful that you are in the Army, Phillip. I commend those who serve in the Armed Services for our country and freedom.

My dad died on Christmas Day 1960 while stationed in North Africa in the US Army.

Maybe Chick should have put a disclaimer in his tract to show that not all chaplains are RCC. Shows the fallability of man. However, instead of us degrading Jack Chick, maybe we should be praying for him.

If you say something against me, rest assured, I am not going to blast your name or reputation. I will talk to the Father about any issue that we cannot agree on. The hand and the foot are parts of the same body.

First of all, if I placed my picture up the glare from my bald head would mess up your monitor. People pay way too much for a monitor for me to go around messing them up.

Second, I too was a Chick teen. I bought them at church camp (SBC) in the bookstore. When I started noticing something was wrong was when Chick claimed the Chinese were taking pictures of our kids reading comic books so they could make communist comic books. They showed obviously racial pictures of Chinese with cameras hiding behind book counters, complete with yellow skin, buck teeth and exaggerated squinty eyes and hammers and sickles on their hats. I had a real problem reconciling the fact that I knew the Chinese were not sending spies to see our kids reading comic books to get the idea that is how to win over our kids. (Of course, Chick claimed he uses the same method because the Chinese communists figured it out.)

I also remember one he put out on evolution and all of his facts were contrived.

I know nobody is perfect, but this actually hurt, to see someone use actual deception to get across their message.

Finally, YES, it would be very nice for someone who was talented to do some very good comic books for witnessing.

I was typing the other post when you wrote this. I now feel somewhat bad. I commend you for your Christlike attitude. You are definitely "standing firm in Christ". Thank you for setting such a good example.

To set the record straight, I work for the Army as a civilian employee. I didn't want you to think that I am on the front lines. We make sure the warfighters get their ammunition and that it works properly, from M-16 bullets up through bunker-busters. But, I do know the Army regulations on chaplains and also know several.

I kinda figgered ya weren't out there on the front, Bro. Be hard to get on here every night. But still, you have a big responsibility and I do commend you for it; and salute you. Keep the ammunition and supplies rolling, Sir. I only wish my eyes and health were not bad, you might be supplying me with needed ammo.

    Bless you, my Brother.

We'll let the young-uns handle the front lines. Although that sounds bad, they ARE the best in the world and they do their job very well. Bless YOU Christian brother and you will be in my prayers.

Yes, I pray for them daily. We run a music room on a chat prog and have prayer each night at 7 eastern. We lift the troops at that time nightly.
