I read a lot of scifi of course I've read the greats like Dune. but I've never heard of the firebird trilogy. I like the 1632 series. I also like Illium and Olympios. I like a lot of Harry Turtledove books the World at War was a great series. I haven't finished his "Guns of the the South" but I'm enjoying that as well. I've always wanted to write a sci fi novel. I have an idea but I haven't put it to paper yet.

Same here. I have ideas for Sci-fi/fantasy all the time. I used to write quite a bit, but nothing of any real volume and nothing published. Maybe one day...

I have also enjoyed Anne McCaffrey's dragon series and Katherine Kurtz's Deryni series.

Both of these ladies are great storytellers who make their worlds come alive in your imagination.

have you read the Harper Hall Series by McCaffrey, Peggy? It is a nice change from the straight Dragonriders series.

As billwald said above, the "Amber" series is a great read. It is by Zelazny. The original Chronicles of Amber (five books) was written in the late 60's-70's, but it is still good. The second Chronicles was not as good as the first IMO. The series was so good my wife and I planned on naming our second son (if we had one) Corwin after the main character.

Another good series (but rather hard to find) is the Gaurdians of the Flame series by Joel Rosenburg. I've been trying to find it, as my wife would love to re-read it.

I'm more of a Fantasy reader than Sci-Fi.

My favorite series would be The (First) Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson.

I also enjoyed The Dragonlance Chronicles by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

Another (pretty) good series is The Wheel of Time series by the late Robert Jordan.

    :)

What did you think about this new installment of the Thomas Covenant Series. I read the war of the twins but couldn't really get into the other series. I got tired of the Wheel of Time I don't think Jordan thinks highly of women. They are always...well....I don't want to use the term in his books. Witches maybe since in his book thats what he calls them. I like Wizards first rule and the second book though a little to much into sadism aspect and I never finished the 3rd book as I considered that heretical. I started reading older fantasies by George MacDonald. Both Lilith and Phantastees are great books. I read a Dragon book by Anne McCaffery but isn't that really closer to scifi since the people originated from earth though they lost their technology?
